As a Vietnam War Veteran, Retired State LEO, Avid Shootist, Hunter & Amateur Gunsmith, who has used the Hoppe's Viper Bore-Snakes for many years, I can honestly attest, they are far and above the better performing boresnakes that I have ever used. I keep and use one for each caliber weapon I encounter.

I use this regularly on my shotguns. I am a upland bird hunter and this works great for everyday cleaning. I will be purchasing more of these in the future. According to the instructions I can wash this but I haven't had to yet. I run it through the barrels twice and they look great.

These darn things are just too nice. So easy, they help me not feel guilty after I shoot if I cannot get to my gun cleaning regimen (well, if I procrastinate more likely). They do an amazing job. Great invention.

I had a previous version that was a tad difficult to work through the barrel. This model was fantastic - well worth an upgrade.Easy to use. A spray of cleaner and then drop the guide line down, and fish it out the other end. Easy to do with one person. My older version was just too tight and wasn't easy to use alone.

These are great. I still give my guns a thorough cleaning at the end of the season, but these are awesome for keeping the barrel clean between hunts.

Same as the old bore snake, but a couple more brushes. The plastic typo came off upon first use but I slid it back on. I can see that is going to be a regular occurrence (and nuisance). I would have to say I guess it is worth the extra money and it cleans the bore VERY WELL.The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the plastic tip slide off the end on the first use.

This Viper BoreSnake seems to work just a bit better than my standard Hoppe's BoreSnake. Not sure if it's due to being (or seems to be anyway) a bit larger in diameter on the braided part, or having a third brush, or a combination of the two. Just seemed to take fewer passes to get the bore clean and shiny.I use this BoreSnake before running a jag & solvent cleaning patch down the bore, then finally follow up with a CLP patch and I'm done. Not sure if it's worth the extra money, but I have it and I guess the extra "cleaning power" can't hurt.

I was already an owner of a few standard Hoppe's BoreSnakes in both 12ga and 20ga. I am a big fan of them! A BoreSnake is a *huge* improvement over patches and brushes and I would highly recommend them. The only problem I experienced with the original BoreSnake is one instance of the weight coming off the end of the feed string. You also have to use care on some guns to ensure the original BoreSnake fabric does not snag and pull as it feeds into the barrel.I PURCHASED BOTH THE 20ga & 12ga VERSIONS OF THIS PRODUCT. SINCE I FEEL THE SAME ABOUT THE PRODUCT IN BOTH GAUGES, I AM SUBMITTING THE SAME REVIEW FOR BOTH.I bought the new BoreSnake *Viper* so that I would have a second (always clean) BoreSnake and to get any benefit out of the new model. I found the Viper's addition of a tapered cone between the feed string and cleaning fabric does reduce the chance of a snag but some care is still required that you don't snag at a different point as the length of fabric feeds into barrel. The orange end for applying oil is bigger on the Viper and I think this contributes to the new version working even better than the original BoreSnake. BOTTOM LINE: I recommend this product. In fact, I have already purchased two more and given them as gifts.BTW: The instructions that came with mine were pretty weak. I apply Hoppe's No. 9 cleaner down near the brushes, oil on the orange end, drop the weighted feed string through the barrel, step on it, and lift the barrel. Works fast and does a great job! If barrel is very dirty or I did not clean it promptly (a sin, I know), I sometimes run a brush through first.
