Great cleaning tool BUT please don't think that this is the only barrel cleaning tool you need.Good points:Long and strong. Most .17HMR barrels are long, you don't want your ohll-through snapping halfway down the rifling, no sir.Washable. Yep, stick it in an old sock, tie the top and chuck it in the washer.Double action. Wa-hey! The built in copper brush scrubs out the carbon and stuff, the fabric then collects the debris in one fell swoop.Bad points (oh no).Not a single use device. You will need a couple of pulls to properly clean a barrel and then a clean patch afterwards to firstly collect the muck that the biresnake didn't and also to lightly oil the barrel (if that's your thing).Brass thingy needed fettling. The soft brass ferrule thingamajig is very light and so needs a little persuasion by rotation to get it down the tiny .17 bore. Plus, my ferrule needed some light sanding to bevel.off the sharp edges so I could feed it into the chamber without it catching. It's brown. Why brown? Brown hides the muck, a lighter colour would show how clean or dirty the bore is. Maybe I'm being picky.Summary, really useful addition to your cleaning kit. Some people advice cleaning a rimfire barrel every 1000 rounds or so, for my shooting, I disagree. I clean it more often - I've spent alot on my rifle, I don't want a pitted barrel, I also think that the copper jacketed HMR round is a little less forgiving of a dirty barrel than a standard soft HP .22 round. So there.

Do not listen to the reviewers giving this product one star and complaining it gets stuck in the barrel. I did and paid the price! Since these reviewers complained about a tight fit I decided to get a SnakeBore in .17HMR instead of the correct size .177 for my Big Cat. Mistake! When I went to clean the rifle the SnakeBore rattled like a BB in a boxcar. Way too small. Now I am left with a SnakeBore I can not use and wondering if the .177 size will also be too small, if I purchase one in the correct size. So now I am going to fork over more money because these reviewers are so weak they can't pull a smaller object thru a larger hole. I am an old guy with severe upper extremity injuries and can do that! When I get the second SnakeBore I will update my review.

For 50 years I have cleaned rifles with a rod, bore guide, brush and patches. This is how I was taught you do it. Bought a 17 Hornet rifle and I needed to get a new rod , brush and bore guide since I did not have a rod that would go through the barrel. I happen to see the bore snake advertised and decided to give it a try. I am now a convert to the BoreSnake. Two passes and the barrel looked like new. I did buy 2 bore snakes so I could clean with one and oil with the other. Yes, I am sure if I put a patch down the bore there would be a slight residue on it even after cleaning with the BoreSnake. I use to be anal about things like this but with the time and money I save using the BoreSnake, I am sticking with the BoreSnake. If you have never tried one I highly encourage you to try one.

Well, despite all the negative reviews, I decided to try this for my new savage 93R17 since my normal brass cleaning rod won't fit the tiny 17HMR bore. But I had a test plan before trying on my savage... Start on .22cal air rifle, then down 0.005" to my 0.177 barrel, and finally my .17HMR. The inconvenience if the snake broke off in my air rifle would be minor compared to having to take my savage into a gun smith to remove the snake.Test-1: I tested this snake first on my Beeman .22cal air rifle. Results: pulled nice and easy. Maybe not quite snug enough to ensure the bristles swept the barrel clean, but upon inspection of the cleaned barrel, I will use this snake for that air rifle barrel (my primary barrel). Still did the job.Test-2: tested on the 0.177cal spare barrel I have for my Beeman air rifle above. Results: it was a tight fit, but it worked. Did a great job. Clearly felt and heard the brass bristles nicely scrubbing the barrel as I pulled the snake through. I was at my limit of comfort regarding the tension on the pull cord. Any more tension and I would be worried about breaking the pull cord. But the tension remained constant during the entire pull. Worked great.Test-3: finally moved down another 0.005-0.007" to my 17HMR. No Go. I only got about 3-4" of the snake in the barrel before the tension was so high I felt it would break. No way this will work for 17cal. Don't try it.Conclusion: 17HMr? Nope. No way.0.177cal? Yep. Perfect. This an excellent bore snake for anyone shooting 0.177cal pellet guns. Match shooters should really like this snake for those guns.

Not really much to say as a boresnake is pretty much a binary "works" or "don't work" product. The product works really well. Generally I'll spray some powder blaster in the barrel and let it soak for a minute, then I'll spray the boresnake with oil and run it through the barrel and then spray oil directly down the barrel, spot free. They are machine washable however I personally prefer to hand wash them in a sink with detergent-free dish soap. Beware of the front of this as it has a integral brass bristle area that will poke your fingers like there's no tomorrow.

I have several of these. I wish I would have invented them!! They are very handy for a quick cleaning at the range or in the field.. Of course a thorough bore soak and clean are still the best. But carrying all the rods, brushes, patches and solvents are impractical at best.. The only flaw I can find, and it's a minor one, is the .17 caliber could use more weight on the pull cord. I think just adding length to the brass weight would do the trick. It's a little hard to get through the bore. All that said. it's a handy tool!!!!

As other BoreSnakes, this one performs well. Only problem is that with .17HMR, the opening is so small that the BoreSnake is VERY difficult to pull through. The good news, it is clean and shinny when you finish!

This boresnake works great. I bought them for my 243,22 and some of my other rifles. They do the trick on smaller guns since there is very tight clearances and the barrels are so small. Just use some solvent and gun oil on it and your chambers. You can't go wrong with this. Fast shippping and super easy transaction. I would do business with them again.
