I bought this set some time ago and I haven't really used them much. I much prefer buying single end mills for each kind of material I need to cut, which costs quite a lot more. I bought this set to get started - so I would have sizes that I wouldn't normally have on hand. For that purpose they work well if you don't work them too hard. The edges aren't as sharp as most of the other end mills I have so these end up being my last resort in most cases. In contrast, the better end mills I use tend to run $50 each and sometimes more or less depending on coatings and other features. I tend to think I get a lot more use out of the more expensive tooling, so your mileage may vary. I tend to think buying 1/8, 1/4, and a 1/2 inch individually would run about the same amount of money and cover most of the kinds of things I do.

I would have gave 5 stars at this price but the box fell apart ! The wooden case is so shoddy that it literally falls apart under it's own weight. The hinges are paper thin metal and the top and bottom wood laminate feels like thin wood bark falling apart ...and did fall apart. The finger joints were not glued and the whole thing was just coming apart. Wasted time and a plastic box probably would have been cheaper to supply. C'mon Shars !As for the cutters, they work fine in Aluminum I bought them for , I have some other cutters for steel. It's a good price for a set of cutters for Aluminum and at this price it's a good deal . I had to glue the finger joints, wrap the whole box in fiberglass mesh and coat it with resin, inside and out ...then replaced the hinges with nylon straps epoxied on and Velcro straps to keep the front shut...hack job but now it's a solid case.Kind of a pita . Decent set otherwise

Good all around set. I work in a shop that occasionally uses the mill, no production level stuff. These work perfect for what I need. I have only run them on mild steel, aluminum, wood, and plastic. No issues at all.

These are high speed steel. Not carbide. They are great for aluminium. I have had excellent results with my LMS 3990 High torque mini mill. However, I had a steel milling requirement, and no carbide bit. After facing 30 square inches, four or five passes, my four flute 3/4 bit wore out and started throwing sparks. Not the fault of the bit. I finished the job with the two flute. I have since bought a carbide bit. I will also buy a new set of these, because the whole set costs about what the one carbide bit cost.

After ordering and waiting for 23days (So much for the 4 day suggested date) I had to go down to the UPS office to pick this order up. UPS would not deliver it to my home and even required me to open it in front of two clerks due to oil stains on the outside of the box, Once opened we found the straw wrapped packed dripping with a yellowish oil. The cheap storage box was discarded within two days after it started smelling of soured milk. The actual performance was just horrible, The 1/2" bit flaked it's corners off with a simple counter grain cut across a 1" block of softpine ; 30mm/m, depth of 0.5mm, very slow 1000rpm. The 3/8" splintered with hairline cracks up the shaft after a few slow runs through the same material. I would suggest the Harbor Freight version. They are still in use at the shop. Ignore the box, the one you receive is no where close to the image.

This is exactly the set sold at Harbor Freight. Identical packaging and everything. 5 stars is not to in anyway speak to the quality or usability of these end mills. 5 stars reflects that it is the same set that Harbor Freight retails for $79, and I got it for $30 less.Read other reviews for comments on their quality and application, I just got them to screw around with while I learn how to use my mill assuming I will break them all. I have no previous experience with machining and cannot compare them to anything else. That said, if Harbor Freight crap is good enough for you, then this is even better.

I only write reviews for exceptionally good deals. These are surprisingly so good. I bought this set as a cheap backup so I wouldn't have to wait for a replacement in case any of my very expensive name brand end mills unexpectedly broke. Many of my name brand end mills have broken or worn out and needed to be replaced. To my surprise, these cheapos have suffered far worse abuse and remain in pristine condition. Somehow they are of far better quality and I now prefer them over the mills which individually cost as much as this whole set.

These End Mills are sufficiently hard and sharp for general use. With care they will last. Only had one dull out on what turned out to be tool steel. I will buy more if/when these wear out because of the great price for a full set!
