What is a Yard Hydrant?
- A yard hydrant is an outdoor water faucet designed to provide a reliable source of water in rural areas, particularly on farms or ranches. Unlike traditional faucets, which are installed inside a building, a yard hydrant is installed outside and usually mounted on a pipe that extends underground.

OK, I’m still a beginner at some of this stuff. It never occurred to me that this was the head only, without the riser pipe and the underground valve assembly.I’ve used these hydrant valves at campgrounds and stables up north for many years. I was excited to add one to our new small farm/tree nursery. It came as a head only.I’ve since went ahead and purchased a complete hydrant assembly, and installed it. I swapped the original blue head, and installed this red head. It works great! Yes, I understand color doesn’t matter, but red is easy to spot anywhere in the field.I paid less for the entire hydrant (Amazon), than this head by itself.

especially when you live in a very rural area and don't have a water system set up or power outages a manual hydrant is a smart choice. just be doubly Sure your putting it in the correct place you can't just dig a hole and expect water, i would consult a professional to find where best to add a manual hydrant to your water system.

We needed to replace one these hydrants out at the horse barn, and it works a treat. It does take a little bit to put them in but follow the directions and have some patience and you will be able to replace one yourself. These are an absolute necessity to have on the farm, we could not operate without them.

CONS: Short.PROS: Frost free. Easy install. Large diameter.Additional Thoughts: This is a little short at only 3.25' but I am in Central Alabama so burying about 1 foot down will be fine for me. Installation was easy. My old pipe was 3/4" with a 1/2" hose bib and got about 13gpm. With this hydrant, I now get about 17gpm which is a nice upgrade. I also like that it is all metal, frost free, and has the easy on and off handle which can be seen from a good distance to tell if I left it on. I strapped this to a U-Post to add some durability.LovingTheRetiredLife

We recently moved to the country and there are several water outlets around the property. One of the, water shoots out of whenever it is turned on. The Frost Free Outdoor Faucet Head was an exact fit replacement for the one that was leaking when turned on. The installation was pretty straight forward and solved the leaking issue completely. I like the red finish on this one as the existing ones are either a very dull red or green. The Frost Free Outdoor Faucet Head is easy to operate and can be locked shut if necessary. I would buy another if another exisiting one fails.

I have several frost free hydrants around my property. I currently have one that is relatively new still but has started to leak at the plunger. I got this hydrant head as a back up when it inevitably fails in the middle of winter, better to have on on standby, than have to wait several days for a new one in freezing temps. This hydrant head is cast construction, and actually seems a better quality than the last ones I purchased. It is heavy duty, which is good and necessary. All parts seem tight and ready for use. Time will tell where longevity is concerned, but I will update this review should I find a reason to.

This outside hydrant is very durable and well made. All the pieces and materials are solid and heavy-duty.The handle is easy to lift open and close. My husband installed it to replace our old one. He said the installation was really simple and easy. It has a good flow and free from from leaks.I'm not sure how the "frost free" part works, because it's still been too warm to see how it handles, however with as durable and solid as it seems, I have no doubt it will work as claims.
