Your cart is empty.MLCS forstner bits are manufactured from high quality steel that is long lasting, precision ground for heavy use and easily resharpened. Forstner bits are designed to drill flat bottom or through holes cleanly in end grain, thin stock, veneers and regular stock. They enlarge existing holes with ease and can bore any arc of a circle. These bits will not move off center through unusual grain or knots. Great for mounting mini-quartz clock movements, cup hinges and door locks. Sizes 1/4-Inch to 7/8-Inch bits are supplied with solid rims. The saw teeth design for larger diameter bits (1-Inch and larger) stop burning and cut faster without losing the advantages of Forstner bit action. Shank size is 3/8-Inch and overall length is 3-1/2-Inch for sizes 1/4-Inch through 2-1/8-Inch excluding metric sizes. For sizes 2-1/4-Inch through 4-1/2-Inch shank size is 1/2-Inch and overall length is 6-3/8-Inch. Use large bits in drill press.

Definitely a defective bit. It broke before it even made any real contact with the wood. You can't even see any wood particles on the bit. Very dangerous. The bit arrived sharp, but definitely well used. Very disappointed

Big honkin bit that works very well. Cutting edges were a bit ragged but a diamond file cleaned them right up.My big problem with this order was that this giant bit arrived in an envelope.I honestly don’t know how it arrived at all as it chewed up the envelope and probably everything else it touched from there to here.Anyway it makes clean holes but requires slow going on a drill press.A good value in my opinion.

Makes hole cutting easier and last longer than a regular hole saw. Just be careful because it can grab wood and twist your wrist if it catches while drilling. Drill on a slower speed.

If you're ordering a 4 inch bit, you already know it's big, but you don't quite appreciate the size of it until you really see it. The shank is very thick and sturdy, and too big to fit in many drills. It is a hex end for a better grip.It is intended for use with a drill press at low speeds. I had to bore a hole for a unique installation to recess the end of a projection screen housing into a wood beam about an inch to make the install fit. While I wouldn't recommend anyone try it, I managed to bore that hole high up on a ladder with this bit in a cordless drill. Go sloooow, it makes a lot of chips and is messy, and the bit will grab and jerk. You better have a solid drill with an added brace or side handle, and keep your face or anything you don't want smashed away because it will bite and grab. I expect using a proper drill press in a stationary setting wouldn't have this issue as it shouldn't bite as much when drilling straight.This is not your average forstner bit, the outer teeth are very broad and jagged, and the inside "sweeps" while sharp are rough as well. This is not something for finish carpentry. I can really only imagine this for rough carpentry where you need to do something like recess an electrical box into a beam or joist, fit a light fixture in a log cabin wall, etc. You could accomplish about the same finish with a hole saw and a chisle, but this is cleaner in the end, but again don't expect a perfect smooth hole, it is a rough cut and will have some jagged edges and chips.The center point isn't extremely sharp, and is at a very wide angle, coming to a point form 4 sides. I had expected more of a flat 2 point end, or maybe even a screw tip. Overall, it got the job done, and I'll probably never need it again, but I'm glad I had it for this particular job.
