This is for the 1/2" bits. These bits are well made, and are good for every day use to get the job done. The holes made are good, but not super clean around the edges unless you go very slow. But they are good for cranking out work if you just need a good hole with a flat bottom. They also lasted for more holes than I expected, maybe 30-40) in hardwoods before I saw a performance drop. Since these are carbon steel they can be sharpened, but I haven't tried it on these yet, and it's usually a pain to do that. For the money, these are decent working bits.

This 5/8-inch Forstner bit is an excellent tool for woodworking, providing clean and precise holes with minimal tear-out. The sharp cutting edges ensure smooth drilling through hardwood, softwood, and even plywood, making it a great addition to any woodworker's toolkit. The round shank design allows for a secure fit in most drills and drill presses, providing excellent stability during use.The bit cuts efficiently without excessive heat buildup, and the center point helps keep it steady for accurate hole placement. It produces flat-bottomed holes with crisp edges, perfect for cabinet making, furniture projects, and other fine woodworking applications. The durability of the bit is impressive, maintaining its sharpness even after multiple uses.Overall, this Forstner bit is a reliable and high-quality choice for anyone working with wood. It delivers smooth results, is easy to use, and holds up well over time. Highly recommended for woodworkers of all skill levels looking for a precise and durable drilling tool!

These bits appear to be industrial quality - not highly machined/polished but they will get the job done and they cut quite aggressively. Will I use them for fine woodworking when a very clean flat bottom hole is needed, probably not; but I will use them when I need to plunk a hole through a 2x4 to string some cable. They are about 3-1/2 inches in length making them ideal for getting in between wall studs - especially if you use an angle adapter with your drill. The side cutting spurs are a bit long but should help in preventing tear out on the far side of the hole. This review is for 3-pack of 1/2" bits.

I needed this bit for recessing some figure 8 fasteners under a white oak table top. I've only drilled 10 holes with this bit, but they all came out crisp, flat bottomed, and the bit still seems very sharp.I can't speak to the longevity, but it got the job done.

If you don’t know why you need this type of bit it’s simple: Forstner bits create extremely clean, flat-bottomed holes whereas a regular bit is for drilling all the way through or leaves a cone shaped bottom.Pros:+ Carbon steel construction; and+ Two-spur cutting design vs. circular skirt.Cons:- Round shank requires careful tightening;- Short bit overall; All in all it’s a good bit for the price. And, it’s a good intro to Forstner bits. Get one, you’ll be happy with the experience.

In picture, no-name bit on left, TOOLMAYS on right. TOOLMAYS uses a lot less metal, shaft is thinner and shorter, and hole diameter is cut by two spurs rather than the usual circular skirt. There are many designs of Forstner bit cutters and this bit uses the simplest design, making it easier to sharpen. Being that Forstner bits are hard to resharpen, they tend to become treated as disposable. I own many different brands of Foresters collected over the years and this bit cuts as well as any other, name brand or otherwise.

I use Forstner drill bits for very specific woodworking tasks, which means some sizes in my set rarely see any action, while others, like the ½-inch, get used regularly. Since I rely on clean cuts, having backup bits on hand is always a good idea, so I picked up this set to keep my workflow uninterrupted when a bit starts to dull. I was pleasantly surprised by how straightforward this purchase was—three identical bits without unnecessary add-ons, odd size pairings, or inflated pricing. It’s a simple, practical set for anyone who frequently drills this size hole.Right out of the package, the bits looked solid, well-machined, and properly protected with oil and plastic wrapping. While I wouldn’t call them high-end, they certainly don’t feel like cheap, disposable tools either. In use, they performed exactly as expected, cutting clean holes with smooth edges and no excessive tear-out. I own bits that cost twice as much, and for my purposes, I can’t say they do anything noticeably better than these. They hold their edge well and seem built to last through a reasonable amount of use before needing sharpening or replacement. The real appeal here is the practicality. Instead of buying one expensive bit at a time, I now have a few extras ready to go, which means I won’t have to stop mid-project if one starts losing its edge. If this seller offers the same kind of set in other frequently used sizes, I’d absolutely consider picking those up as well. For anyone who needs a reliable set of ½-inch Forstner bits without overpaying, this is a great option.
