I have these for every caliber and gauge for the firearms that I own.Of course this review is for a shotgun snake but just a note regarding rifles and handgun caliber snakes. It has been said that more barrels are ruined by improper cleaning than shooting. This is due to cleaning from the muzzle and having the cleaning rod damage the bore at the muzzle. For instance an aluminum rod will pick up dirt over its lifetime and can act as an abrasive when contacting the bore when cleaning from the muzzle unless one is extremely careful. There are guides available to avoid this problem but no such issue with a bore snake. I always feed the snake in from the chamber end. Of course you can do that with your typical cleaning rod on bolt action an AR platform rifles but a revolver or most lever action rifles, forget it!There are still times that I use a cleaning rod but more often than not, the snake comes out of it’s den!

This product is going on every hunting trip for now on. I use it every time we finish up hunting before my shotgun goes back in its case. Its so simple to just run it through the barrel a couple of times and pull all the gunk out. It has a brass brush section that scrapes all of the carbon followed by the rope to pull it all out. I'm even gonna use it at the end of the season when I break the gun all the way down to do a heavy cleaning. No need for a long cleaning rod anymore.

Works phenomenal! I've used it in 2 of my 12GA shotguns after skeet shooting. I only put 25 rounds through each gun, but after 1 pass they looked shiny and clean! I wouldn't use this as a replacement for patches, but I will run it though before patches. For field cleaning this is perfect!I put sprayed oil through and left for 30 seconds. I poured some hoppes oil on the end of this (before the brissles) and pulled through. Then ran about 5 patches with a rod and the gun was really clean. Speeds up the process for sure!

It's the original and it's better built than anything else out there. I ordered the cheaper ones and never received my product. At that point I stopped messing around with the so called knock off products and just ordered the original. I looked for the best price and purchased a Viper Bore Snake. I have been using the Viper Bore Snake to clean and lubricate my shotguns, rifles and pistols. I am always amazed that after using solvents, brushes and patches that I am still able to get carbon debris off using the Viper Bore Snake.I have been using this product for some time and I am extremely satisfied. I would recommend that you hand wash them instead of putting them in the washer. All of the debris watches right off with some Dawn or laundry detergent. I then rise and hang dry.The Viper is an improvement to the original bore snake. You can tell by looking at the nylon meshing. It's a great product. You will be glad that you purchased the real product. You work hard for your money. If you can buy the best for a few dollars more, why not get the best.

I have been using bore snakes for about 5 years and have used them for rifle, pistol and now shotgun. I kept putting off getting one of these for my 12 gauge because Im cheap and the cleaning set I had was working fine. Then I bent one of the push rods and I had no other excuse left so I ordered one. I did a lot of searching around and decided on the Viper after reading most of the reviews on about 4 other options.PROS- This bore snake takes about 2 pulls through to get the barrel clean on my 870 after a full day of hunting birds. The bristles are strong and are very efficient at removing carbon from both smooth bore and rifled barrels. I also like the plastic guide on the pull string , that makes it easy to get the snake started without a lot of fuss. One other thing I liked that other snakes did not seem to do was put a heavy cap on the pull string base. Now I’m not sure if its weighted or just heavy duty but I have never had a snake string pull itself down the barrel without some shaking or shoving. The orange lube pad works well only needs a few drops to coat the entire barrel.Good as well as bad- A lot of reviews commented on the durability of the pull string. I have been watching this closely and I do not see any wear and tear. With that being said I can understand why this seems to be an issue as this snake can be a bear to wrestle down the barrel. The fitment is extremely tight and you need to put a fair amount of torque on it to get it pulled down the barrel, especially past the orange sectionCons- the orange lube pad I believe is slightly oversized and tends to be a pain to get into the barrel without pushing it through by hand. It’s just the way it is designed I guess but it could have been slimmer at the very end to ease this issue.Overall- I like this product; it works well and makes quick work compared to using cleaning rods. Even though there are changes I would like to see happen the results greatly outweigh the issues that I spoke about. Get it, you will not regret it, I didn’t.
