The boresnake not includes a T-handle for easier pull through of your firearm and a reusable carrying case that you can keep in your range bag or backpack to protect your boresnake during transport. If you have not discovered boresnake barrel cleaners it's time you give them a try. Put a little bore cleaner on the fluffy end, drop the weighted pull line down the barrel (boresnakes makes it easy to properly clean from the breach) and pull it through. Once or twice is usually all it takes to get a shiny clean bore.

I was skeptical when Bore Snakes first came out, but over the years of both selling them in local gun shops as well as using them myself, I became less skeptical and more won over. For a quick-clean, there is nothing better. Elmer Keith made reference to something similar he contrived from over-sized patches/rags and a leather thong with a slit in it. This item expands on Elmer's idea, and like the .44 S&W Magnum, it turned out to be a good idea.In recent years, they have included a sort of handle so one could, in theory, use the product without touching the fabric of the bore snake in order to limit your exposure to chemicals. I always discard the packaging and just pack the snake into a Mason jar with a white plastic lid bearing the label so I know what caliber snake is in the jar. If you are concerned about the chemicals you are using, maybe the thing to do would be to use another solvent or wear disposable gloves. In any case, unless the gun you are cleaning has a badly rusted bore or is otherwise really dirty, the bore snake will generally get the gun clean in one or two passes using any of several brands of bore solvent. Not a bad idea to add a little gun oil to the back end of the snake so you can leave a film of oil behind. Now, you still need to clean other parts of the gun in the prescribed manner, and it isn't a bad idea to have a conventional cleaning rod with brushes and a fitted jag for days you fired eighty rounds on the range for some reason, but for most "homestead guns" this is all you will ever use to clean the bore and chamber.
