This mouthpiece offers a really nice sound. I am used to really bright pieces like the Vandoren Jumbo Java. This is is not as bright but it is not dark either. It is free blowing and easy to use. I highly recommend.

I've used one of these for 25 years and love it. I can play from low to high, loud or soft, sweet or slamming, and it gives me a great sound. I've tried some other popular mouthpieces, but haven't found any I like more. I find I like using clarinet reeds (LaVoz Med Soft) on this, more than soprano reeds. For some reason, they don't make the sound thinner, seem to be easier to articulate, and they just combine well with the mouthpiece. I do clip the tip, just a bit, to make the face of it wider, to fit the mouthpiece.

This mouthpiece is fairly dark and mellow in the lower register and brighter in the middle and high range. I gave it an OK rating because after playing both for a period of time, I would have the standard Yamaha piece that was sold with the instrument. This is not to say the Vandoren is a bad mouthpiece but that the Yamaha is very good, consistent and pleasant to play. So for me, the cost of the upgrade was not worth the benefit. Of course, mouthpieces are very personal and another player might find the Vandoren an excellent choice. It took many try's to find the "sound" I was looking for with my Tenor, and I suspect the same will be true with the soprano.
