Test kit delivered without any liquid in the ALK-30 (Total Alkalinity) bottle. Appears to have leaked all over the inside of test kit making instructions unreadable. Without ALK-30 liquid, the Alkalinity is unable yo he tested. Waste of money as Amazon says this is unrefundable.

I was having some problems getting the water in my hot tub balanced using the strips that were provided with the tub. A friend suggested that I try using one of these type of kits for more accurate readings.Tried it this morning for the first time. Hopefully it will get easier the more I do it. As of now I am not really sure it is any better than the strips. The instructions are somewhat confusing and seem to be more for swimming pools than hot tubs. Looking at the dosage charts for what to add depending on readings, are confusing both because the use ounces or grams where I am used to using teaspoons and tablespoons, also the chemicals recommended to add are not the same as what I have been using.I have a feeling it is still going to be a lot of trial and error.

I am still a little new to the chemical balancing but have used liquid drops for chlorine and pH as well as 5 way test strips for our spa. These have great directions.I definitely prefer these to the strips overall but still use strips due to testing for hardness; wr have a water softener. The directions for each test are well written and described. There is a handy spot that tells you based on your results hoe much chemicals to add based of oz. There is even a troubleshooting part of the insert that can help answer additional questions you may have that is especially helpful when starting out or still.being a novice. My one complaint so far is the ALK 30 bottle did not have the hole punctured and I squeezed the bottle and the dropper lid came off and over half the bottle spilled. I was able to puncture the tip in order to use it and get the spout back on but am unsure if the drops are as accurate as well as having lost product. The whole reason I got this bigger kit was to test for alkalinity as I typically have very high pH and borderline low alkalinity with no hardness with my water when I start out.I hope to find a test that will also include hardness indicator chemicals so I can get rid of the test strips completely.I now will have to order more and cannot find it by itself. Looks like I will be getting the whole pack. Will review again once I utilize the chart for balancing the chemicals.
