I believe the folks at Time-Sert took thread repair "to the next level". For me, they invented a solution for every shortcoming with existing products. The process uses a smaller size drill because the O.D. of the insert is small. The insert is solid, which is really good for a pile of reasons. I feel that the new threads are actually stronger than the original tapped aluminum that I repaired. It is more expensive than the other alternatives because there are special dies and installation tools required that are unique to each thread size. The thread insert length decision, hole depth prep, preventing tap from breaking, etc is somewhat "technical" but they have really good videos. In my case, I saved a $1,700 motorcycle for about $80 (and now it's better than the original).
