The Taco 009 BF5-J Cast Iron Circulating Pump with a Bronze Cartridge is an upgraded and superior pump then the standard Taco 009 and equivalent base model pumps. The Bronze Cartridge increases the life of the pump and is able to handle the hard application better. This circulator pump will seamlessly replace other pumps without any issues, it simply is the exact same pump as the Taco 009 with better parts inside. How much time do you waste replacing pumps? The cartridge is replaceable if you do have a failure. Taco 009 BF5-J Pump (Cast Iron pump with a Bronze Cartridge) - is specifically designed for high-head/high-flow applications in large residential and light commercial systems. It is ideal for high pressure drop boilers, fan coil units, heat exchangers, larger radiant systems, heat recovery and geothermal systems. This was the correct pump and it was easy to install and works fine. I had to learn the hard way that many pumps look identical but they have very different capacities and ratings. Make sure you are replacing the pump with a pump of the same rating. Often you can look at the item on Amazon and see that it matches but that is not the case with Taco pumps.

Purchased 2 of these pumps in 2 years. The last purchase was Feb. 2022 fired up the wood furnace and ran 2 week’s December 2022 the pump broke . Maybe 2 months use of the 2nd pump. Not worth wasting your money on because you have to purchase another one before you return one. Then they’ll fix the original and you’ll have a back up they say. No refund of the nearly $300. Buyer beware.

I just had to remove the four bolts to rotate the motor so the power connection was on top. Installed about 20 minutes. Faster than expected delivery as well.

The pump worked great! However, it was not the correct pump for a re-circulation pump, which was my application. Since it was cast iron, it corroded big-time and turned our water yellow. I have the correct stainless steel one on order. I did ask the vendor if this was a good pump and he steered me wrong.
