I converted my old Ryobi 3/8" keyless chuck to this key 1/2" chuck. I wanted a keyed chuck because the keyless chuck would become loose even when I was using 1/4" shank drill bits because of this I quit using the drill. Now with this keyed chuck I can also use my regular drill bit collection (non hex shank) without worrying about slippage and when I need the extra rpms of an electric drill.

I had a small portable drill press (alignment press mostly) that had an original 3/8 chuck. I removed the center screw on the original chuck and tapped it off with brass hammer, then installed the new chuck and tightened the screw. Much needed cheap and simple upgrade.

Thought a 3/8 drill, and needed to convert to 1/2 inch chuck. This went right on. Sure it’s a keyed chuck but seems to be the only option , plus with a key it grabs better anyway!

The Total Included Run Out (TIR- A measurement of how much the tip of the chuck will run out-of-true) on this chuck was 0.25 mm. That is well within the stated allowance and fine for hand drill motors, as well as non-precision drill press set ups. --------The scroll mechanism slides smoothly and with no tough spots. The jaws grip well through the entire range. Some Confusion-When purchased, the listing did not say whether this chuck has a center bore for a spindle screw. In case the ad is not updated, it does have the center hole for the spindle screw. In other words, the chuck screws onto the drill motor's spindle and a left-hand threaded center screw is inserted inside the chuck & tightened.Suggestion- Use anti-seize on the male threads of the drill motor's spindle and removable thread lock compound on the female threads of the spindle (where the left hand screw is inserted). This will make removing the chuck for cleaning & lubricating much easier in the future.
