These trays are very nice! The sides are harder plastic and the bottoms are silicon or something similar. Mine came with 5 trays and I expect them to be reusable for many seasons. The lights it came with pop right on to the lids which is super handy to be sure all the the little starts get the light they need. The only thing with my kit was that one of the lids is a bit difficult to pop onto a tray, maybe it is a bit defective, but the other four are perfect. All in all, I recommend this set.

These are really lightweight small growth chambers to start plants and they do work in germinating garden plants. I have several in progress and the plants are growing. The instruction manual is so tiny and with such tiny print that I cannot stand to read it with my 2.75 reading glasses. And the lights instructions are a bit technical and not easy to figure out. The lights work very well and provide plenty of illumination up close to get plants started. I don't understand the reason for the mat they suggest you place in the bottom of each chamber. I don' think it does much.A family might really enjoying using this as a small project with their kids to start plants in late winter to put out in a garden. The lighting makes it kind of fun, but you need to have a place to plug in the lights that takes a USB connection. I just used an old low-voltage charger for a computer many generations ago when USB was commonly used. These are really light plastic so may not last much more than one season.

This self watering seed long starter kit is the best. But works even better with Rapid Rooter grow sponges. Instantly already growing lettuce, tomatoes, watermelon, carrots and legally cannabis in CT. Started growing over night after germinating in a shot glass or the plastic bag with paper towel trick. LOOK at my progress in days!!!! I started growing this past summer and this is far the quickest way to get a head start on growing seeds. I love to clone also.

There is a lot to like about this set. I think the cells with silicone sides are are good idea, and it is. This should make getting seedlings out of cells easy and less traumatic for the seedlings themselves. All good there! The lights are good if you don't have a seed starting setup, this can be really useful to get seeds germinated, and seedlings off to a good start, anywhere you have a bit of room, even in the laundry room! The lights use USB-C, so again a plus. I like the little risers to the cells trays are not sitting in the water, and the domed lids have adjustable humidity vents. The set also comes with pre-cit wicking material, 2 little plastic tools to fill the cells and get the seedlings out of the cells, as well as labels. It's a very comprehensive set!Really the only thing this set it missing is a warming mats, but its pretty easy to find a spot near a heat vent, or on a dryer in your laundry room. But, there is one thing that is problematic with this set, especially if you use very lightweight seed starting mix, which I do.The cell holes, or more specifically the one large single hole in each cell is too big, I mean WAYYYY too big! Usually there is one small hole or holes around the edges of each cell to wick the water up. These cells each have one Gigantic hole! My seed starting mix just falls right out!HERE'S THE HACK! Then I put a penny, a copper penny at the bottom of each cell. A penny is the perfect size! If you use pennies minted before 1982, they are 95% copper, so they also have the benefit of being a natural fungicide! But any penny will block the gigantic hole! This hack works really well, and as an added benefit (I mean, do you really need even MORE benefits from this hack?), it makes getting the seedlings out of the cells even easier, because you just push up on the penny! The set comes in a modest product (not just brown cardboard) box, but it's acceptable for gifting. If you do give it as a gift, throw in sixty cents worth of pennies, so the kit is completely..... complete.
