Works as advertised. Roll it out, stake it down (optional) water it, and watch it grow. If you try to put it down on a windy day it will blow around like paper. I played it out and immediately (per instructions) soaked it, and kept it wet for around a week. I planted at the beginning of October in Chesapeake Virginia, and had green "peach fuzz" in 7 days. After another week it looked like real grass. I purchased another roll and had the same success. The birds left it alone, unfortunately the squirrels did not! A much better value than buying the seat mix with mulch and fertilizer.

I was excited to get this product. It says roll it out, water it and watch it grow. There’s more to it than that obviously. I had to prepare the site. Removing all the old thatch, dead grass, leaves, and digging down 2 inches to loosen the soil. I did all of the above.I had rolled out the mats to decide how to lay them out around a tree and a curved flower bed. I cut out the design as best I could, and used the scraps to patch in some of the larger openings.I noticed that the mats had two different sides. A dark side and a light side. I wasn’t sure which side to lay on the ground so I tried contacting the company and I have received no reply. I thought this would be important since it said, in the video that the mat would stick to the ground once it was watered. so I wasn’t sure if there was a sticky side or not sticky side. Since there was no answer, I tried placing the lighter side down.I watered it, and it quickly became a very sticky mush and adhered to the ground. When the site was prepared, I lay down the mats and watered as instructed. I also watered it three times a day because of our Texas heat. And that was as instructed. It’s been two weeks and I have seen absolutely no growth, no sprouts, nothing. I was hoping I’d see at least a couple of sprouts by this time. A close-up shows that the seed coats are popped open from hydration but nothing coming out of them. I wonder if it had viable seeds at all.Since there are no phone numbers or replies to text messages, there is no way for me to know if I still need to wait longer to see any growth. But it seems that two weeks is long enough to see something happening. One photo shows that there are some holes but those were created by small critters who like to dig things up. After taking the photo, I went back and patched the holes up. That’s when I examined the mat and noticed that there was absolutely no growth happening. No roots no sprouts, no nothing.

We took advantage of the quarantine to overhaul our previously gravel and weed filled side yard. I put quite a bit of work into prepping the space prior to laying grass. Because of all the gravel I put in new edging and 4” of new soil. I had no desire to dig out the existing dirt and rock and I was fine with the area of my yard being higher since it did not connect to the existing grass in my yard.Once the soil was down I wet the dirt and laid the growtex paper down, wetting each section as I went and overlapping by an inch or so. It went down easily and wetting “glued” it down pretty well. One issue I ran into was the softness of my soil created a lot of lumpiness as I walked on it to lay down the grass paper. I’m not sure if this would be avoidable or not. It was very apparent when first down, but as the grass grew it has become less so. I may add more topsoil and roll in the fall if it still bothers me.I was worried about the paper getting blown around by the wind but never had an issue with this. I watered by hose three times a day for the first 4 weeks, and then went down to once a day with a sprinkler. I did not cut until it had grown for 6 weeks, and have only cut it once so far. I can still see quite a bit of paper through the grass, but it is slowly disintegrating.Overall very pleased with how well this worked and how easy it was. I know there are comments about the expense and how buying a bag of grass seed would be much less expensive. To me the simplicity of this product and how well it has grown were worth it.

Stuff is great. Came quickly and was suuuuuper easy to follow the directions and setup. Negative reviews on here talking about the "wind blowing it away" are simply not watering it enough, this mat basically, when wet, has the texture of a paper towel, and like a paper towel when it gets wet it tears easily and falls apart. It does not stay in one chunk and blow away unless its DRY! mine is thick and lush and growing great now. Here is the secret:1. Roll it out onto loose soil. If the ground is hard packed it will not bond very well. Grab a metal rake or shovel and gouge and loosen the soil before laying Gro Trax over top.2. Water it until its soaked, essentially you want it so wet that when you attempt to grab a tiny corner it pulls away in your hand, however don't water so much that its actually a puddle, you dont want this stuff underwater, just soaked through.3. Continue to KEEP IT SOAKED. If this has sunshine on it or wind it will dry out quicker than your average soil. Water 3,5,7 times a day whatever it takes to keep the mat CONSTANTLY damp, after the first two weeks you can ramp down to normal grass watering routines.4. Enjoy your new chunk of thick grass and be happy that you utilized this great product and didnt waste your money by not following the package directions!
