Product Description

PROTO JSBV0810 Black Chrome Reversible Ratchet Wrench 1/4" x 5/16" - Spline

From the Manufacturer

Proto Spline Tools are designed to service high tensile strength fasteners used widely on military and commercial aircraft and in heavy machinery applications where vibration is prevalent. They are also used in automotive and industrial areas where high performance torque needs to be achieved. The Spline profile allows a higher torque to be applied before rounding of the fastener corners occurs. The applied loads are moved away from the fastener corners which allow the spline wrench to turn fasteners that are already worn or rounded.

Perfect. Very handy considering 1-4 and 5/16 is mostly what I use for hard to reach places. Well made.

I did it, I lost the only really good small tight quarters wrench I had for years. Which apparently they quit making. at least I didn’t see a version on Amazon like it. But this one is the closest I got. So allow me to tell you about this one. First let talk about size, since the picture really doesn’t do it any justice. It’s a tiny thing. Fits easily in the palm of my hand. Only about 4.5 inches from end to end. The wrench itself is very nice looking and works like you’d except. Offset angle design to give clearance when on a fastener. Looks like it has a 12 point socket, but don’t hold me to it. And after using it a couple of times it does work very nice in a tight spot. And holding your finger down on the top will give you the ability to work the ratcheting action for removing or tightening the screw head. Most of the machines I work on have either a 1/4” or 5/16” head and this works very well to get to the screws. And the ratchet action is good for short strokes if that is all the room you’ve got. Now for a very so slight grip. I wish it had a stop in the socket os I could use it with different bits in the 1/4” end. But because there isn’t a stop, the wrench slides on the shaft of the bits. Which only means I can’t use it the way I could the one I lost, so that’s disappointing, but I can also see why they didn’t include the in the design. All said and done I’m happy with what I got, even if it is a bit pricy in my opinion.

One side is 1/4" other is 5/16". Get this if you're a HVAC tech or you run into alot of these types of screws. It's worth it

This wrench is fantastic. It is small and compact and able to get into a lot of tight spaces. I am an aircraft engine mechanic and it is very useful. A coworker of mine with 40 years experience loved it and ordered one for himself. He said he wished he had this a long time ago. Seems to be made very well.

For the last 33 years I've been a fighter jet engine mechanic in the USAF and as a civilian working for the Air Force . That said, we use the absolute top quality hand tools and special tools manufactured by a company that everyone is familiar with. Recently, we were given multiple hand tools manufactured by Proto to test the sturdiness of the product. Long story short, myself and about fifty other mechanics graded the tools side by side with tools costing 400% more. What we found was the Proto tools performed on par or better than the over inflated "FAMOUS" tools. Believe me when I tell you that we did not pamper the Proto tools at all and we were specifically briefed to try and find the Achilles heel of the tools. I have to say, after using the Proto tools, I'm totally impressed. If these tools can stand up to the rigors in a professional environment at 1/4 the price, why would anyone throw their money away because of a name? I was so impressed with the Proto quality that I've purchased several tools for my personal use and couldn't be happier.

Often work with UHV 12 pt hardware. This has both of the common sizes on one tool. Ratchet is firm and feels like a quality tool. Often put 15ft-lb of torque on this tool.

I overhaul turbine engines and just about every nut and bolt is 12 point. Spline drive is the way to go, whether it's with wrenches or sockets. They grip like no tomorrow, even on slightly rounded hardware. Pricewise, compared to the other 2 truck brands, way better than them, IMO.
