I ordered two, and neither fit properly. I was disappointed, because I really wanted this to work.

All we can say is that it was easy to connect and it hasn't leaked. We're waiting for winter to see if it really works. Unfortunately, I can't comment on that part yet, but hopefully, it'll all work out. Don't want it to fail when winter does hit.

So, the weather finally got cold on my land, and to be blunt, these things are terrible. Of course, I only discovered this after ordering a few extras, but hopefully, I will save someone else from making the same mistake. After having a night drop below 10 F, these valves did open as designed, but they did not simply drip water, they gushed water, even after the temperature rose above freezing they continued to gush water and did not stop until I turned the water off.To their credit, they did prevent the lines from freezing, but you may as well just turn on your faucet at full blast with how much water was pouring out of these things. Honestly, you would be able to regulate the flow of water much better by just setting your water lines to a trickle with whatever faucet/valve you already have on the line.Unless you're okay with burning through thousands of gallons of water a day, I would not recommend using this product. They have already been removed from every line that I had them on, and unfortunately, I've had to shut down the water on my land and winterize the lines until next spring.

I live in a fifth-wheel, and winter can be a challenge. Last year, I had frozen water for four days, even with a heated hose. The water froze at the spigot coming out of the ground before it reached my hose. It's a common practice to let the inside faucets drip when the temperatures drop to freezing, to keep the water moving and prevent freezing. This seems to be the concept with this valve. I don't know how it works, but as long as it does work, that's all I care about. The valve is heavy-duty, made of stainless steel and nitrol, which is nickel and titanium. So, it should last for years. It was very easy to install without any leaks. It does come with instructions to use Teflon tape. It's a little late in the season for testing where I am in northern Georgia, but you never know. At least I know I'm ready now.

Unfortunately we are probably past freezing weather so I couldn't evaluate this completely, but I think I've convinced myself it will work. You have to install this device BETWEEN your unfrozen water line and the faucet you want to protect because it only protects pipes from freezing that are beyond it. The big question is whether the lines that exit your house will stay unfrozen. Mine are inside a foot thick log so I'm pretty sure they will, but who knows about thinner walls, even insulated ones? I'm pretty sure I've got this mechanism straight: this device works by shunting off water from inside it when temperatures hit freezing by means of a temperature sensitive metal spring that opens a bypass valve and allows very cold but not yet frozen water to fall on the ground or flow away via a hose you attach. Without expanding ice the device itself will not crack and the water that was removed is replaced by warmer water from your water source.I wanted to test this release valve so I connected two short pieces of scrap garden hose to both sides of the. device, filled them with water, and closed them off. Then I put them in my freezer overnight with a little cup under the discharge valve opening, figuring that if I saw ice in the cup or discharge tube that the valve had opened, and sure enough it did!I recommend this device with the caveat that it might be tricky to install. I installed this first one on the faucet that came through the thinnest wall and had the best access both inside and outside, and that was the one on my barn. The other difficulty with the T-type device like I got is that the outlet has to point directly down in order to work. The trick is to get the pipe connection tight at the same time the outlet points where you want it. I ended up undoing it several times and adding more Teflon tape, hoping to turn it a quarter turn less. In the end it wasn't perfect, but pretty close, and it worked.
