The first one they sent me snapped immediately. The replacement they sent me was too long and won't catch the threads if you align it straight on the valve spring. So I slid it back to the edge of the valve spring and it worked for 2 of them... but then the tool bent on the 3rd one. These are either really poorly made, or not I tended for this motor. 2008 f150- 5.4L 3v V8 XLT. It seems like they need to be a quarter inch shorter so the thread can catch with the forked end aligned properly on the head of the valve spring. So the first one snapped the legs off... the 2nd one bent at the forked end. I need a quality version of this tool as I can't finish the job without it, and evidently OTC ain't it.

Tool was strong and worked great but I had to modify it slightly for my 5.4. For some reason my copy wouldn’t allow me to get the knob started on the compressor. I didn’t have time to return it so I ground down the top nub that contacts the inside of the knob during compression until I was able to get the knob to start threading. After that 24 followers off and 24 followers on, no problem. I know there are other knockoffs out there that bend up and fail. I would still buy it again. OTC makes great stuff.

Worked exactly as intended. Save yourself the headache and frustration, buy the right tools the first time. There are cheaper versions of this tool, but you get what you pay for. This tool didn't bend or flex and was key for completing this job. HOWEVER it required modification in my case and needed to shave a bit of the inside off to clear the can lobes and sit where it needs to. (Images attaches show where) also for those struggling, a rubber band helps hold it up when doing the exhaust followers.

I bought a less expensive, similar tool to change the lifters in the 5.4 litre 3 valve engine but after only 3 valve springs, the tool stopped depressing the valve springs, I struggled through and got a total of 5 done with that tool before I returned it and purchased the OTC brand. It worked great and I was able to do the remaining 7 with no problems. I still have to do the 12 on the other side but I have no douthat this tool will get the job done.

I first bought the cheaper version of this and it didn't work at all. Was about an inch from being able to fit which is a lot in terms of a valvetrain. So I sent that one back and spent the extra money for this one and it worked perfectly. Definitely made my camshaft install a whole lot better than risking not taking off rollers before removing the specified rollers on each side. Everything is too fragile to not do it the way you're supposed to. Save yourself the headache and get this to remove the rollers you need to. Don't cheap out on your car and it won't cheap out on you.

This is the second time I've needed to remove the rocker rollers/followers, with the first time buying a cheaper knockoff of this. It was terrible, and bent after 1 spring and I fought to get off the remaining 23 over 2 days. This time I bought this one, and OMG IT TOOK ME LITERALLY 1 HOUR (per side) TO DO IT AND ITWAS THE BEST DECISION IVE MADE IN FOREVER. You really get what you pay for, and I got the job done better, quicker and the tool did NOT break so I can use it again, unlike the other one, so this has already paid for itself. I did this on a 2005 5.4 f150

Good tool at a great price. If you are working on a 3V 5.4 or 6.8 engine you should probably have this. Well designed, there’s a couple of the valves where I wasn’t sure it was going to fit but it does and let’s you get a tricky job done without unnecessary disassembly.

I needed this tool to complete a timing set install in my 2006 F150 3v 5.4L engine. I followed a series of videos on you tube that documented the timing set install in the Ford 3v 5.4L engine. There was an excellent demonstration on how to use the tool. If the engine is out of the vehicle the roller followers can be snapped into place using a long screwdriver or suitable bar. With the engine installed in the vehicle this tool made instalĺation of the roller followers a breeze, if used correctly. Anyone considering a complete timing set install or just lash adjusters and roller followers needs to have this tool.

No major issues using this tool to remove rocker arms from 5.4l 3v engine in order to pull cam shafts and re-time engine after new timing kit installation. Was a little tricky to get the hang of it at first, but luckily the engine provides us with 24 opportunities to use it for removal, AND 24 more for reinstallation! Yay!2 bits of caution from my personal experience.1, be sure to continuously push the rocker down on top of the valve stem when compressing the spring so you won’t take a chance on losing the valve. With prior warning, I didn’t have any problems here. Which was nice, as I would rather push my truck off a cliff than voluntarily pull the heads due to dropping a valve into the cylinder. And 2, check clearance of tool on cam towers when compressing springs. The only minor issue I had was once or twice (with very little clearance) I ended up bumping into the cam tower or something else in the head, and couldn’t fully compress the valve spring to remove the rocker. Repositioning the tool and starting over in those instances allowed the spring to compress fully. I wonder if the negative reviewers who broke the tool may have had similar experiences and pushed it past its breaking point. This job requires a lot of patience, but the tool is a must-have.
