Your cart is empty.MLCS forstner bits are manufactured from high quality steel that is long lasting, precision ground for heavy use and easily resharpened. Forstner bits are designed to drill flat bottom or through holes cleanly in end grain, thin stock, veneers and regular stock. They enlarge existing holes with ease and can bore any arc of a circle. These bits will not move off center through unusual grain or knots. Great for mounting mini-quartz clock movements, cup hinges and door locks. Sizes 1/4-Inch to 7/8-Inch bits are supplied with solid rims. The saw teeth design for larger diameter bits (1-Inch and larger) stop burning and cut faster without losing the advantages of Forstner bit action. Shank size is 3/8-Inch and overall length is 3-1/2-Inch for sizes 1/4-Inch through 2-1/8-Inch excluding metric sizes. For sizes 2-1/4-Inch through 4-1/2-Inch shank size is 1/2-Inch and overall length is 6-3/8-Inch. Use large bits in drill press.

Forstner bits are often cheaply made and dull easy, but this one has held up fairly well for the one project (with heavy use) I so far have completed. Time will tell with more use if it holds up.

It worked well for the first 50 holes we needed. Had to purchase a replacement to finish the other 130 holes we need to make. We will see how that goes.When it works, the holes are nice and smooth. Just what we were looking for. Just wish it was sturdier.

This sizeable chunk of metal arrived in a white thin cardboard box. It's a sturdy piece, so the packaging was plenty to protect it as well as other items ordered at the same time. It's as described, a sharp Forstner bit with an 3/8" chuck Allen bit. This helps it keep from spinning when it shouldn't better than a standard round end would.

'Forstner Bits' are fairly new to me, so, I don't really have a frame of reference. I bought this to use for a project that required hollowing out a log...neatly. lol Chucked into a heavy duty 3/4" drill...aka- 'The Beast', this bit moved a LOT of wood, so, for my purpose, it worked just fine. Fortunately and thanks to you-tube, there's not much involved with sharpening Forstner bits. I did have to touch it up several times in the process. I don't know if that's common with all of these types of bits. I tend to believe it probably is.Now that I'm no longer a 'Forstner Virgin', I'll be expanding my collection in 1/2" increments down to 1". I can see many other uses for this type of bit. Again, for my purpose, this bit did what I bought it for...and neatly.

The cutting edge arrived dull and jagged because it was finished with a coarse grit grinder. It left concentric scratch marks at the bottom of the hole, which I could not live with. I polished the cutting edge with vibratory sander and that helped.Also the tips of the teeth around the outside had a visible roundness, not sharp.Steel looks like high carbon because of the sparks off a grinder, but I can't say what hardness it is. Not soft enough to cut with a file, however.For the cheapest Forstner bit I got what I paid for and made it work to drill a dozen holes 3/8 deep in cherry burl.
