How To Care For Your Bow

To prolong the life of your bow, always loosen the bow hair after playing to prevent warping. Gently turn the screw counter clockwise to loosen and clockwise to tighten before you play. Without rosin, your violin might sound too faint or thin. Achieve a clearer sound by using the included quality rosin. Work the rosin back-and-forth along the bow hair from the frog to the tip.

How To Tune Your Violin

Using the included chromatic tuner, tune your violin by carefully turning the tuning pegs in the peg box. Achieve a perfect sound with the fine tuners in the tailpiece.

A string broke taking it out of the case. Couldn't tune a different string because the knob wouldn't tighten at all. Didn't even get to try it.

I played violin through 2 years of middle school and all four years of highschool. I stopped for many years and found this violin as one to pick things back up with. I came to write this review because I wanted to express this violin is perfectly fine for parents looking to get their kids into a string instrument. Its perfectly fine for someone who is coming back but doesn't want to break the bank. Some parents in the reviews have been given a hard time by their kid's instructors because of the make. I say in all seriousness, many violin instructors are snobby, it just comes with the territory. If you are looking for quality violin to start that's for a good price, look no further. I would say as you progress, if you would like better quality strings and bow, go for it, but that is not to say that this make is terribly quality; it's alright. I also read in the reviews that it feels cheap, but I disagree. Violins are light weighted instruments. If you're looking for "$1k carved from Yggdrasil and a bow made from the hair of Galadriel" quality this isnt for you. Happy Playing!

I recently purchased this violin, and my experience has been quite frustrating. On my very first use, one of the strings broke, which was disheartening. I followed all the proper techniques for tuning and playing, so I didn’t expect this at all.To make matters worse, the violin just won’t hold a tune. No matter how many times I try to adjust the pegs and fine tuners, it seems to slip back out of tune almost immediately. This has made it nearly impossible to practice effectively, and I find myself spending more time fiddling with it than actually playing. While the craftsmanship looks decent and the wood appears nice, the functionality is a huge letdown. To top it off, my return window is now past, so I'm stuck with an instrument that doesn't work properly. I was really looking forward to enjoying this violin, but the issues have made it a disappointing purchase. I wouldn’t recommend this model, especially for beginners who need something reliable to learn on.

I play instruments. I play the cello, I know acoustic bass, and I play the piano a little and I wanted to learn the violin. I wanted a violin that I could learn off of and wasn’t too expensive and I found this kit and I really like it. The violin isn’t the best but if you are just starting out it is a good price for what you are receiving. It came with everything it promised and it is a good setup for a beginner. The bridge most likely will not be set whenever you get the package but that was easy enough to fix. The tuning wasn’t too bad. However, the instrument does seem to get just slightly out of tune when I take it back out of the case. The bow is not great, I would recommend a better one but this is ok if you just want to learn the violin. The shoulder rest was the one thing I had a problem with. It is definitely not the a high quality one and I struggled with it to find out where it would stay in, but it is usable. It came with everything it promised (the extra strings, rosin, and even an extra bridge are in a pocket on the inside of the case) and the tuner even came with its own battery. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone that is just starting but also recommend you buy finger tapes and another shoulder rest if you prefer.

updated 12/24/2018 :original review at the bottomso it has been a year with this violin.overall: Still Cheap violin. so you can be _GUILT FREE_ about sticking fingering sticker on the finger board., marking it with white paint, etc major PLUS for beginner. The instrument stayed in tune the entire year, needing only minor adjustment from day to day. Probably because it's covered in paint, it was actually very stable against change in climate conditions through out the year, from dry cold winter to wet spring to humid hot summer to dry hot fall.Painted body also means sound quality is muffled/muted/colorless and not at all expansive and no projection. (at least compared to my wife's 19th century hand-made violin with really thin varnish). But then again, this wasn't a bad deal for me as I can't make those sound on my wife's higher end violin ANYWAY! :)Changing to a set of dominant strings made everything sounding _even_. Still won't do anything subtle, but I'm not capable of subtlety, so this is NOT a problem. in fact because it is limited, it won't ask the beginner like me to do anything more than what I'm capable of. Very comfy.changed to wittner chinrest. it made easier for me to hold the violin under my chin. The production chin rest was adequate, so I'm taking this one as preference issue....still good enough violin for middle aged beginner who has no musical talent, but willing to move through the learning process slowly.___________________________For the price, it is good enough. mine came with everything in good condition. no damage to the items. the strings took about 5 days to settle into tune. but once it settled, after 45 min of practicex2times per day, it went back in tune by within a half the turn of micro-tuner at the end of the day. this is consistent, and I don't consider this to be going out of tune quickly or grossly. Bow is adequate. not really high quality, but good enough for beginner. no problem with hair. it stays put.sound. mine had warm enough sound. within the beginner's ability to create a sound, it does what it is suppose to do. IF you want a violin that would answer to Subtle manipulation, this isn't for you... but for beginner working on basic tunes? More than adequate.
