I should have gotten this sooner. Saves the wear and tear on my hands from changing the old one. Works well.

I obtained this to replace the keyed chuck on a portable drill guide. The installation was very easy, I simply opened the jaws of the old chuck to allow for the removal of the left-hand (reverse thread) screw located at the back of the jaw cavity, then unscrewed the old chuck from the shaft (which has regular right hand 3/8-24 threads), then reversed the steps for the new chuck. While I would probably not trust this keyless style of chuck on a regular drill press, for this woodworking tool it worked fine. The drill guide is now much easier to use and I don't have to worry about losing the chuck key.

The photo is the wire coil winder that is part of an old "Jump-Ringer" aka "Jump Ring Maker" set. One puts a mandrel of a certain gauge/diameter/size in its chuck, hook the end of a piece of wire on the end of one of the jaws, then, while holding the wire tight, turn the crank and wind the wire into a tight coil around the mandrel. Cut off the wire, put the coil in the other tray/holder part and use a jewelers' saw jig to make a very thin cut down one side of the coil to create jump rings. These rings are used to make necklaces, bracelets, and Chain Maille (yes, like armor, but more delicate). Jump rings are available in bulk commercially, but they are only in certain standard sizes and particular metals. If you want another size, a different wire material, or to save cash, you make your own with one of these setups. The chuck that came with the winder was a great big toothy Jacobs type, literally the same make/model as in my floor standing drill press. Overkill and required the key. This is SO much better. The only complication was that the old chuck actually had a tapered shaft, not threaded, even though the handle end was threaded as 3/8"x24, same as the new chuck. So I had to acquire a bolt that size/pitch, cut it to length, and use a die to cut threads for the handle end. It all works and is secure. Happy!Update: I got curious and looked at the current versions of Jump Ring Maker (Pepe Tools/Foredom) and guess what? They come with a key-less chuck nowadays. Well, well...

I ordered the Follde Keyless Drill Chuck to upgrade my old Milwaukee corded drills - one or both - to eliminate the hassle of constantly digging for the elusive chuck key. Unfortunately I have not yet been able to remove the original chuck from either of my drills. That's not the fault of the Follde Keyless Drill Chuck, which looks well made, with full grip checkering and a very solid weight in the hand.So I will keep trying to free my old chucks and meanwhile I suggest that you do the same before you order a replacement. Neither of my old drills is worth the service fee to have the old chuck loosened. When I succeed in freeing one of mine, I will update this review with more information on using the Follde Keyless Drill Chuck.-------------Sharing is life's greatest joy

I’ve amassed a number of power tools over the years, including corded and cordless drills, and attachments that can be used with them for precision drilling. These days, most drills come with keyless chucks, and I love the ease of use that they provide. Three attachments do not - they came equipped with conventional Jacobs chucks that use keys. So I ordered this to replace the chuck on a drill press adapter that I can use with one of my power drills. Unfortunately, I was unable to use it for that because I wasn’t able to remove the Jacobs chuck from its shaft. So I fitted it to a corded drill that is rarely used anymore. This chuck is fitted for use with the 3/8” female thread that most 3/8” drill motor shafts have, so it’s a near universal fit. It easily attached to my old B&D drill motor, the last one that I have that lacked a keyless chuck.I’ve deducted a star from my rating, because the tightening and loosening of the jaws isn’t as smooth as I would expect. There’s a bit of a ‘catch’ when I open and close it to insert or release a drill bit. It could be something that will eventually cure itself, or it may be a synod a problem. Aside from that glitch, I’m quite satisfied and expect to get many years of trouble-free service from this product.
