The part you see is very sturdy. However, the screws and anchors were flimsy and collapsed. They had to be drilled out with a larger bit. After that repair I find it to be strong and reassuring. I would rather had paid more and gotten sufficient hardware to complete the installation myself instead of having to hire a professional to complete the job.

This a very sturdy and durable looking handrail. It did come with a few dings in the paint, but I was able to touch them up, to my satisfaction, with matching white gloss rustoleum paint. It took some time to install. We chose to go directly into the dirt and it seems secure and stable. This was a great solution to our need for a handrail off our front porch. It looks quite nice.

I read the reviews before buying and worried about it being shorter than indicated and that the hardware was cheap. Neither was true in my case. The hardware was good and the length was accurate. Furthermore, the quality of the top handrail piece was impressive. Very heavy duty, solid wrought iron. It installed in the ground easily and was firm for use. My wife is thrilled. I will another for a second location.

I would buy this again. Cannot complain. It is sturdy enough & has quality paint. My only possible considerations in not buying again (besides a price increase) would be that the handle does not ergonomically fit a person's hand. This is a minor issue since most people will not be pulling on or relying on the hand grip for their safety during normal use. The other consideration is that the post does flex if pulled on as a lever i.e. it is not thick enough to preclude this.Overall though I wouldn't call this product "cheap" or low quality. It is well made and does the job for 1 to 2 stepped stairs.

We wanted to install a second handrail on our garage's 3 indoor wooden steps. The catch is that we wanted it installed along the side of the steps, rather than on the walking surface of the steps. This was to ensure the widest possible distance between our handrails, to make it easier to bring a walker or rollator with us when going up or down the stairs. As it turns out, the ground version of this rail post is perfectly sized for the task. The 18 inch of added length that would normally be cemented into the ground provides exactly the right amount of added height to let the post be installed along the side of our three stair staircase, leaving the handrail almost exactly at the same height as the wall-mounted handrail previously in place. The key to the installation was drilling 8 long deck screws through the post and into the 2" x 4" wooden frame of our staircase. The result looks good, and is about as sturdy as we could ever have hoped to achieve. The only difficult part was making very sure where to drill along the post to ensure the deck screws were delivered to the middle of the 2" x 4" intended frame member of the staircase. Just drilling a hole every 2 inches from the bottom up to 16 inches from the bottom did this well. The holes were just wide enough to accomodate the deck screws. We also pre-drilled the holes in the frame, using a smaller diameter extra-long bit to be sure the deck screws went exactly where intended, without weakening their attachment to the wood.I did use up two older duller drill bits doing all this, but that's to be expected.Anyhow, an hour later, the handrail is mounted well, and if ever necessary can be just as easily removed.Definitely recommended.
