A lot of people have handrails going up to their porch from the sidewalk. I did not because the previous homeowner thought anyone can go up two steps with ease. Not if you have people with walking/hip issues who simple need a rail to guide and balance them. Plus a good handrail helps prevent liability issues from someone falling while going up or down your steps. This Hand rail is a very sturdy iron hand rail, 25" long with black powder-coated paint. It comes with a set of 4 stainless-steel screws designed to anchor it into concrete and it also comes with another set of stainless-steel lag screws and washers designed to attach it to solid wood columns. The seller provided a little wrench that fits the screw heads and one-page instructions. We attached this hand rail to a porch post that just happens to be hollow inside. So the included lag screws for solid wood would not do because they have a 1/2" smooth collar behind the screwhead that would not properly grip the wood and secure the weight of this handrail. So we had to purchase 4 galvanized (SS not available) lag screws with threads to its head to attach the hand rail. (This is our problem due to our post being hollow, not the manufacturers.) Anyway, you would benefit by using your own power drill to drill the holes into your wall/post and a good ratchet to screw the screws in. (you would tire easily using that little wrench provided.) You could use a drill with a socket bit to screw in the screws but the position of some of the anchor plate holes prevent a power drill from accessing them. Better to use a ratchet. Anyway, the handrail is now mounted and secure. Being as it is attached to a hollow column at our house, I don't think it could handle the full weight of someone leaning on it. So it would be more of a guide for them. But if it was attached to solid wood, I would trust it to handle at least 200 lbs. pushing on it. Now we don't have the need to pour concrete to put up a handrail mounted on the ground. And it is easily removeable when we want to paint or change the column. Good solid value. (Note: I did notice a couple tiny paint/metal imperfections in out-of-the-way places that do not interfere with use and the paint will scratch if someone digs into it with something sharp. But it can always be touched up with a matte black paint.) Good value. 5 stars
