I like the concept of it self aligning, and it does so as advertised but, as another reviewer mentioned, it is just too top heavy which seems to make the rebound noticeably slower. I find it very difficult to play clear double strokes with these beaters and the overall feel of the pedal is very sluggish, even after tightening the springs. Had to return them, unfortunately.

I did my research (there are so many beaters to choose from) and have used hard felt, regular (DW) felt and turned the beater around and used plastic. I wanted to get a louder acoustic sound even though I am mic'd. First I bought a Danmar which worked out fine but was a little costly. The main thing I noticed is not that it was louder but that it gave the bass drum a different (and in my opinion) and better sound. The tonal quality improved as well as a little more attack. Now, because I play 20 inch BD's, the beater hits square in the middle of the head. The gibraltar offers the same beater but with the shaft being one inch longer. When I found it on Amazon it was ten dollars cheaper then the Danmar and hits just a bit over center of the head making the drum sing. I'm very happy with this set up and use two on a double pedal. And the comments about it being heavy do not affect me because any good pedal can be adjusted to accomodate the weight. I gig every weekend and after about a month I don't see any wear on the head although I do use a patch. I recommend this beater.

Love the self adjusting head and the 2 sided feature. Great for electronic or acoustic drumming.

This is a very well made beater, but it's so heavy, it completely threw off the balance of my pedal. I like a hard beater, but the Gibraltar reversible one is lighter and faster.

Please note, this is heavier than your average beater. If you like a faster, lighter beater, this might not be for you. It adds some weight and impact to your strokes, but that could affect your speed. There is no weight on the shaft to adjust the feel. This isn't good or bad, just an observation.

The stock beaters on my double pedal were finally wearing out to the point where I couldn't ignore them anymore. Feeling adventurous, I took a chance on a couple of these wooden beaters from Gibraltar, and so far they have yet to disappoint. I don't notice a dramatic increase in the weight of them while I play like others on here have, but that might be because I've been playing with an entry level double pedal for the last 7 years. Once I broke them in, I can play at my normal speed. I like the solid, punchy sound they make, and the length of the rods are not in danger of destroying my 22" kick head, despite the fact that they are 7" long. I just got a new double pedal, and I'll see if I want to keep the stock beaters on that one, or switch out to these. It's a toss up for me as to whether I prefer wood to rubber, but these beaters play well, are not so heavy that they'll slow you down, and at least for 22" kick drums, the rods shouldn't poke your heads open. Gibraltar's done it again!

I use it on a 24x14 Ludwig bass drum in a Ludwig Atlas Pro bass drum pedal. It self aligns on the plastic side and it's a good sound if a bit on the 'clickey' side. On the felt side I prefer the sound as its warmest but it eventually spins down towards the floor. Still sounds good but if I didn't have a Remo slam pad on the batter head of my kick drum I'd be worried about it wearing the head in a weird pattern. If there was a way to tighten it down once you got the desired angle I would give it 5 stars.

This is very strong and makes your bass drum pedal strikes the batter head with precision and force.

I simply love these beaters. I've always been used to using the two-sided type beaters (the ones with felt on one side and a hard plastic on the other) and I've always stuck to the plastic side, however, these beaters always had a a "light" feel to them thus making me increase the tension of the springs. Now because of the sheer weight and length on these beaters, I have lower the tension so I won't damage my feet...these things just fly. It was crazy. I'm actually still trying to get accustomed to playing with them. I just love them! They really fit how I like to play. Also the fact that the beater head is made from wood, you still get that attack without losing punch and bottom end.A great buy for any drummer out there, no matter the style of music that you play.
