This specially designed, one-piece, all metal camera grip, with smooth machined edges for the Sony DSC-RX1/RX1R Cyber-Shot Digital Camera gives added comfort and a better, more secure grip on the camera. In addition the metal grip on the bottom and side of the camera gives added protection. The large opening on the bottom is positioned so that the battery and memory card can be easily removed without taking the entire grip off the camera. There is a offset tripod screw socket in the base of the grip which allows the grip to remain in place when mounted on a tripod. The recessed thumb screw wheel does not protrude past the bottom of the grip, so that the camera will stand on a flat surface without tipping when set down. The color and finish of the grip is designed to specifically match the Sony RX1/RX1R camera making it a sleek, unobtrusive tool for your camera.

And it's a very tight, precise fit. Made the ol' beastie so much easier to control. Bought one for my other RX1R2, also. Would be a nice option if the base was compatible with standard tripods, but won't complain as I don't use them often.

It's smaller than I expected. I wished the grip can be as high as lens.

Great hand fit but you want to work off a tripod, better to buy a arc compatible mount.

Nicely made and finished but I found it uncomfortable. I have bony fingers (not much padding). With my index finger on the shutter release my middle finger curled over the top of the grip that had a squared off corner, this was was uncomfortable to me. The corner was rounded off with a fileand repainted (barbeque paint did the job). It now provides a good secure hold on the camera, and no bony finger problem. .

Great fit. Adds a bit of weight to the camera because it's metal, but plastic construction wouldn't be rigid enough and also wouldn't be worthy of being on this camera. The SD card is difficult to remove due to tight clearance around the battery door opening. Tweezers or needle-nose pliers work but not convenient when traveling. As an alternative, if you slide your finger off quickly enough, you can use the spring behind the card to help eject the card far enough to grab it with fingers.

Wow!. For the money very impressed. I can't imagine this leaving my Sony RX1R. No reason. Compact and well built. Fits perfect. The protection it provides is great too. The whole bottom of the camera sits on this grip and that's the most abused part of a camera, the bottom. It also provides total access to the battery and memory card door. Feels good in hand too. Much more secure handling. All metal construction. Perfect fit. Can't say enough about this grip.... Get it... It is essential for this camera...

Excellent lightweight, low profile grip that make it sooo much easier to hold the camera especially if you're using a wrist strap. Now i can shoot one handed with total confidence of not dropping the camera. Just makes things easier!! Plus its metal not plastic.

When I first got my RX1, I struggled with how to hold it securely. I tried the Sony thumb grip, which I liked, but unfortunately that option does not allow for the EVF or a shoe mounted finder to be used. Looking around at grip options for the RX1, until now there really have not been that many options and the ones that do exist were either cumbersome, heavy and/or pricey. This Fotodiox grip is a very welcome option. It's well made, fits perfectly, allows easy access to the battery/ sd compartment and, most importantly, is secure and comfortable to use. The low profile of the actual grip part allows for the third finger of the right hand to wrap around the top of the grip portion which has the desirable ergonomic effect of placing the index finger right over the shutter button. Some of the other modular (and pricey) grip options are not quite as ergonomic in this respect. This Fotodiox grip is simple, compact, comfortable and reasonably priced. The only negative for some might be the offset tripod mount but for me - and how I use the RX1 - it's a non-issue.

Not much to say. You screw it into the bottom of the camera and that's it. It's a heavy, solid piece that aids your grip. You have full access to the battery/memory card compartment, and the grip itself is sized perfectly. One thing to note, there is a protective felt padding on the bottom only, not on the inside of the grip handle. Fortunately, that part rests on the camera's rubber grip, so there's no risk of scratching the body. But still, it would be nice if it were covered and not just bare metal.*Update* After approximately a month and a half of daily use the black finish has begun to come off. Not a big deal, but something worth keeping in mind.

RX1 is currently the smallest full frame digital camera in the world, however it's somewhat hard to grab firmly in your hand. As you might be doing, I did some research on things to improve RX1's imperfection, for example, hand grip/ thumb grip/strap. I don't like the idea of shoulder strap with RX1, instead, I got a SONY wrist strap (the one on RX1 official accesory list page) which is very good. But it still kind of missing something, especially when you shoot with one hand. Offical SONY thumb grip is over $200. After looking at a bunch of third party grips, I decided to give this one a shoot. What I like:-Solid all metal built.-Nice looking, looks like it's not a add-on, but originally comes with the camera.-Very easy to install it. It has a handy screw wheel on the buttom to screw in the tripod mount. You don't need any tool but your hands to put it on/off. Also, an alternative tripod mount is provided.-Relatively inexpensive. Most third party grips still cost around $100.-Most important, it surely improves the handle feeling of my RX1. Maybe still cannot compare with a DSLR, but good enough. What you need to pay attention:-If you have big fingers, it might be hard for you to get the SD card out because it's now "deeper". Battery is easy to slide out, no worry.Overall, I'm happy made this purchase decision.
