This tool does have the through-hole in it in the center to allow another star bit through it. I used this pulley socket to remove the pulley from an alternator in my 2002 VW Golf. Worked flawlessly, although my 12-point star bit I had to put through this part had to be cylindrically ground to a smaller diameter to fit it through the hole in this socket.
