This product is significantly weaker and poorly made than the original. In addition it is NOT a direct replacement for 2180228 as the original has attachment tabs directly on opposite sides while this one has offset attachment tabs. One attachment tab seems to be holding after installation.

The price was unbeatable so I was pretty skeptical it was the right part for my whirlpool fridge. This part ended up working well for my situation. The prongs that hold the actual solenoid switch on the original part had broken leaving the switch component to move entirely when the water actuater was depressed.This part fits and I now have my filtered fridge water after a quick and easy 5 min install. The 1 down side was that the width seems to be a couple mm to short resulting in only 1 latched side. I concluded the latches didn't matter much because it is still pretty secure in it's spot. If you have a new fridge I would recommend paying more for a better quality material. Mine is in its midlife crisis so cheap parts work well for me.Over great product for it's price.

WP2180226 part needed per whirlpool parts page. This item says it is replacement but it is slightly smaller that OEM part being replaced. The part just clips in, held in by a clip on each side. Due to this part being narrower the side clips only catch on one side. Earlier models used a small screw on each side instead of clips. There were dimples where the screw holes went so I used a very small drill bit, drilled two holes, and mounted the part with two very small stainless steel screws. I'm a handyman so it was easy for me, might not be so easy for someone without tools and skills. Says free returns but the drive to town to return it would cost more than the part. OEM part not available from Whirlpool. Fridge is a ED2CHQXKQ05
