Being a GE product the install videos were very concise and it was easy to install. My refrigerator called for instructions "X" which doesn't seem to be in ANY of the manuals I could find for this model or the prior one. Based on some answered questions on this product, I found that the shorter fill tube was the one to use. I have had it installed for a few weeks and it works great. It is a bit slower to produce ice than my previous (2006) GE fridge, but once the bin is full, my daily use of ice it is able to keep up with overnight, I will have a full bin of ice in the morning. I have the settings for temperature of freezer on the "recommended" setting but I'm sure if I cranked it down a bit it would be faster. If I were to give any advice - if your fridge water line is copper, go for a plastic push-connector type valve. I tried unsuccessfully for days to get a copper compression valve to work, thinking that the plastic would leak right away... quite the opposite in my case.

This is a bit pricey, but it works perfectly and was easy to install. Had all the parts plus more and the directions were mostly great. Our ice is clean and great. Makes a lot of ice! The ice bucket takes up a lot of our freezer, but we have a smaller than standard freezer. Fits were all good, no issues there. Any leakage is most likely your mistake, use teflon tape at water connection.

Ice maker works great, albeit slower than a counter top ice maker. Installation was pretty straightforward. The instructions weren’t super great, but if you watch a couple of videos on how they get installed, it’s pretty straightforward. The kit has everything you could possibly need, and it’s all really high quality. There is a bunch of things in there that you won’t have to use, so don’t worry if you end up with a bunch of left over stuff.

We bought THREE (3) of these ice makers and all three went bad almost instantly after installing them. The first one stopped working so sent it back for a replacement. The second one froze up creating a leak out the back of the fridge. Had to clean up that mess and start over again. The third one arrived and on the very first try, the ON-OFF switch broke into three pieces and was stuck in the ON position. When the unit is ON it is supposed to stop making ice when the bin gets full. These units all continue to run even after the bin is filled so if you go on vacation you better turn off the ice maker or you'll have a freezer full of ice cubes. As this is a replacement for older models, this replacement definitely needs its own replacement. Not GE's best effort. That's for certain.

The installation instructions are somewhat vague in places . After the installation and about 24 hours the unit started to make a lot of ice . Sometimes we have to turn the switch off .so far so good .

We have a ten-year old GE Profile refrigerator with a built-in ice maker. However, a few weeks back the ice maker stopped making ice. After some research I decided to replace the dual solenoid water valve, but the ice maker still did not work.So I figured that the culprit was the ice maker itself. I did some research on the GE parts website, and it stated that the correct new part was the GE IM6D, which was a replacement for the older GE IM4. This ice maker kit was available from Amazon, which included two ice bins, a solenoid water valve, tubing and other accessories for a complete ice maker installation, although I just needed the ice maker itself.Well, it only took about 15 minutes to remove the old ice maker, which consisted of loosening two screws and unplugging the wire harness from the back of the freezer.I installed the new GE IM6D ice maker by plugging in the new wire harness and tightening the two screws onto the new ice maker. Within 20 minutes the ice maker was making ice! By the next day the bin was full of ice.

I installed this in an older fridge (french door bottom freezer) it went in in about an hour. It works great! The instructions are a bit hard to follow but I think that was because it is an older fridge and things have changed slightly since it was made. Just be prepared to be paitent and you'll be fine!

This unit was easy to install, all the parts were of good quality and the directions are clear. Only bolt-on parts and plug-in electrical. All I needed was a phillips screw driver and adjustable wrench. It's easiest if you can get good access to the full backside (top to bottom) of your fridge. All the plumbing is in the kit, so you don't have to worry about cutting into your fridge's electrical or cabinet. Getting the water supply line connected into your house plumbing can be tricky, but that's not part of this kit. Just make sure you have the model number of your fridge / freezer before you order and before you begin installing. Parts are supplied for many various refrigerators, so you need to be certain you identify the correct parts to install. (The variations are very small.) Don't worry, it's fully reversible. There are about 12 sets of instructions, each one is for a different variation of your fridge. Just pick the right instructions for your model and you should be up and running in about an hour. I easily added an inline water filter (Tier1 GE GXRTDR comparable) outside the fridge for good tasting ice.
