Got this tool for one specific purpose, the giant snap ring on holset turbos for when I need to clock it. Used the 90° tips and all the way open was just enough to grab it

I am disassembling an 1987 OMC Cobra stern drive lower gear housing to install an updated detent and needed the HD snap pliers to remove two heavy duty snap rings, so I purchased these two. The holding bar was a little to big to allow to reach the two snap rings deep in the propeller shaft, so I removed it and compressed the rings with the blue holding device. I had those two heavy duty snap rings out within a couple of minutes. Couldn't be happier. Because each holding bar is the same, I will cut one down to fit inside the shaft and move the holders from pliers to pliers if needed.

They dont feel extremely cheap. Actually somewhat tough. Help to install and remove 6r140 case snap rings. Probably help with the 6r80 snap rings too.

Needed a large pliers kit to work on automotive transmission. Worked well. Not SnapOn but does the job and after multiple uses, no perceived wear on tips. For the price, recommended.

This was a good buy. The locking mechanism is the important part. Removing large snap rings without an extra hand can be cumbersome. The locking feature fixes that problem by allowing you to remove a hand and pry the remaining portion of the snapring out of the groove. Same type of car, same job, new tool and it probably save me 30mins and some frustration. Quality is a little sloppy but it was nothing 5 minutes and a file couldnt fix.

I really only got these to do one job that required a large set of snap ring pliers. They worked well enough for that job but I would recommend getting something a bit nicer if you foresee yourself using these more than a handful of times. The build quality is okay but not great. I noticed a small bend in the tips after the first 2 uses, nothing major but enough that I can only see getting a dozen or so uses out of these before needing a new set of tips. The ratcheting mechanism feels rather cheap and I never found it very useful to be perfectly honest. It seems to work okay however given the option I would have rather just not had it to begin with

Working on an Evinrude 115hp motor gearbox with some serious circlips, deep within the torpedo. No prayer of getting my standard snap ring pliers to work in this situation, predominately because they are too short to allow the jaws to expand enough to engage the retaining ring, but in retrospect after using these pliers - mine would have never had enough beef for the task. These worked flawlessly, a little difficult to get in place due to the depth of the ring, diameter of the torpedo, and presence of the prop shaft - but once on, they locked on and made a problematic task easy. The "real McCoy" pliers from the OB manufacturer are $125.00 and can't possible perform any better! Thanks!
