Received yesterday. Screwed bar to mounting plate which bent when tightened such as it wouldn't lay flat on the wall. which was unacceptable. I was going to return it. Loosened the screws slightly and it then was flat again which is fine unless the grab bar loosens up. Screws with it are a bit short by 1/2 inch in my estimation so I used a couple but a longer one on the side going into the 2x4 in the wall by the door. The screws on the other side would just be going into drywall since it is 3 inches across the plate and the 2x4 is 2 inches, so I drilled the pilot holes at an angle and used 3 inch screws to go into the 2x4. Otherwise drywall anchors would have to be used and they would probably pull out eventually. Seems sturdy enough mounted this way.

I recently became I'll and basically homebound. The one thing I missed was being able to go outside and sit on my back porch. I could not keep my balance going down the three stairs. A friend suggested I try to find a handicap railing. I looked on Amazon and found this hand rail. When it came my son came over and easily installed it in five minutes. It works wonderfully! I am quite heavy and it is very sturdy when I lean on it to go up or down the stairs. My oxygen tubing reaches to my chair outside. I can't tell you how nice it is to sit there in the mornings and have my coffee with the birds chirping away. This will definitely help my recovery.I highly recommend this product!

I purchased the black 28" rail for a 3 step entrance from the garage to the inside of the house. While the materials appear to be sturdy enough for load for this application, the fabrication of the two pieces is not well done. First, the ends of the tube were sprung out too far to fit the holes in the base plate. This was easy enough to fix by bending the tubes closer together by hand to get the tubes to align with the holes in the base plate. The bigger problem is the welded nuts inside the ends of tube are not welded squarely with the ends of the tube. When you tighten the bolts, it causes a twist in the base plate, which will result in the plate not being flat against the wall. This is not a minor twist. It causes one end to be a 1/4" out of plane. If the base plate had been stronger, it would not have twisted and it would have brought the tubes into alignment. Unfortunately, the base plate is fairly light (less than an 1/8" thick). I ended up using 1/4" x 3-1/2" lag screws with washers screwed into a framing stud that I added a second short sister stud to. This was enough to pull the base plate flat. The screws and wall anchors supplied by the manufacturer are pathetic and no where strong enough to make a hand rail secure. There is another design and construction problem with this system. There are many sellers of this type of rail, which relies on two screws to hold the rail to the base plate. However, the rail will move if put moderate sideways force to the end of the rail. The screws simply are not strong enough to keep it from moving, particularly in my case where it is misaligned. You really cannot tighten the screws enough to prevent this. Trying to do so will only strip the screws or the nuts. A very simple solution would have been for the manufacturer to weld the tube to the base plate. That would have solved all these problems. However, this would have meant a package that was 3" rather than 1-1/2" thick. This is a very false economy to save a small amount on shipping costs.

I installed the new handrail for the 3-step entrance down to our garage from the kitchen. Installation took 30 minutes and went without problems. There were extra screws and other hardware pieces which was a nice touch. The final product feels strong and sturdy and safe. My wife loves it. Photo included.
