Some light sanding may be needed. Stain it any color to match your decor. Brackets come in Antique Brass, Brush Nickel, and Black. Homeowners usually choose based on the color of their door hinges. Wall returns help the handrails conform to local fire codes. Please check with your local AND home stairs code as this is customer's responsibility. This is not the light weight aluminum handrails sold elsewhere. It is the real deal. We upgraded our banister for this model with the returns for safety reasons. It works great and we could stain it the same color as our floors. Beautiful

This railing is God sent! My 80 YR husband with COPD has found this so helpful in our staircase. Now he has a handle on each side and can maneuver easier than just with one railing.I wish it had been the same wood as the original, but that's a small issue. Security is the top issue and this railing certainly addresses that issue. My handyman was thrilled it was all ready to go, only a little varnish, attach to the wall, perfect!The price was very reasonable, I'd give you 10 stars.Thank you for an excellent product!!!

Had an issue with one of the pieces and the company responded immediately and fairly. Takes a little sanding if you're painting, but for the strength of oak, very happy.
