Had to go to hardware store to get screws that weren't so soft. Pre-drilled holes and still couldn't get screws to work without stripping the head. Was installing into wood.

Nice finish, solidly built. Screws though really need to be longer to reach into backing studs enough. I wouldn’t lean on one fully with the original screws. Had to go to hardware store and buy longer ones.

I have installed this on the right next to the three steps leading in from the garage to aid my balance especially if I am carrying in groceries. it's a perfect size to give you a little help getting in. Note that the screws provided are only 1.6" long. I didn't trust that with my weight, but I was fortunate to have a stud located about an inch from the door casing. I used 3.5" decking screws on the three central holes and two of the screws provided angled into the two holes just above the rail. (Those holes are 1.25" apart, so you need to drive them in on an angle to get into the stud.) It's not going anywhere with that much anchoring, but I still only use it to steady myself and not to bear much weight. You can do this yourself, but it is handy to have some help to determine the right height for placement. I am 6'3", so mine is set higher.
