Whether it is brass to aluminum alloy or stainless steel or brass to brass my well water will corrode the fittings and fuse them together. If in place long enough it will eat them alive. So by placing plastic between the male and female hose ends they do not fuse together. The shut off valve is nice but not necessary in my case but can regulate water flow. These are well made simple to use and come with washer installed plus 13 extra hose washers that come in handy.

Work very well. All the metal ones corrode or rust. These plastic ones do the job without that problem.UPDATE: I was worried about the single metal part, the screw that holds the knob, possibly rusting later. Therefore, I removed the screw and tested it with a very strong magnet. The screw was NOT attracted to the magnet, indicating 'stainless steel' or other rust-free metal. So much the better. I've bought these twice! Love 'em.

These hose valves are great. Got six of them for almost the same price as one brass valve. Works perfectly

So far I've used four of the six valves on my hoses. They seem to be made of quality materials, but let's see if they last more than a year or two. Like many products made in this particular country, they work fine for a short period of time, but then fall apart....so sad that they refuse to make things to last (products from Japan or Germany often last forever).
