I used this for template cutting. You have to approach the wood very slowly, but once it is cutting, it really works exceptionally well.

High quality for DIY use. I'm not a contractor so I can't speak to how it would hold up for every day use. But I flush-trimmed about 50 feet of 1/2" plywood shelving and it cut smoothly and cleanly. I used a Dewalt router and I had no troubles controlling the speed or bite. Sure, it will grab and take off on you as some other reviewers have mentioned. But that's due to bad grip, bad approach angles, and a general lack of experience with the router. IMO - this is a nice bit.

Cry once and enjoy a sharp cutting edge. Unbelievable bit. Love it.Note:If you know what you're doing these bits do not kick at all. The key thing is to have initial gentle surface contact. This takes some practice to get good at it. If you just push the workpiece against the bit it will chew through the material and bind and send your work flying. It's all technique.

I've used Whiteside bits for over 10 years and never had a problem. They are great bits. However, this particular bit snapped off right below the twin bearings within seconds while flush trimming a small hand hold in a cutting board. I used a different bit after it broke and had no problem. I was only flush trimming about 1/16" of wood that was proud of a CNC machined plastic template. I was definitely going the correct direction on my Jessem router table and the router speed was correct. Not a great flush trimming bit.

Super nice bit, super sharp also! Cut my hand getting it out of the package. Best flush bit I own but also the most expensive of all the ones I own.

The 1/2 inch Spiral up cut bit arrived today and took out of the protective tube, is incredibly sharp. Noticeably sharper to the touch. I'm a machinist by trade so I know new sharp tools. I took a piece of Oak, Cherry and Pine and used a radius template to cut a 3/4 in radius with a 1/2 straight cut bit on all three pieces. Took the straight cut bit out and inserted the Whiteside 1/2 inch spiral up cut bit in next. I cut the three pieces with the new bit. Just swinging the radius and cutting cross grain you can feel how easily it mills off the material. All I can say is Wow, really smooth cut, no sanding required with this bit. I can say was really worth the money. The old adage that you get what you pay for. American made by real craftsman.

I am not sure about this bit. When cutting okay, it leaves a beautiful surface, way better than any pattern cutting but I ever used before. But, on my first attempts it has scared me with how aggressively it bites on first contact. I have done pattern routing off and on for a number of years with pretty good success. I think I understand the basics, direction of feed, use of a starter pin, etc. I was pattern routing cherry for chair parts, about 7/8 thick. Parts were band sawed with less than 1/8 of stock to be routed down to the pattern. Whenever I would swing the stock into the bit from the starter pin I would get a huge grab and the bit would thrust the workpiece hard back at me. I ruined several workpieces due to losing control. Tried several router speeds, including the slowest, without eliminating the scary grab and push effect. Nothing like this has ever happened to me during a pretty fair amount of router use and pattern routing.Ended up not using the bit for this project. I will try it again for something else, probably with an easier wood than cherry, because I did love the smooth cut in the places where I was not blowing my workpieces up because of the grab.Would like to hear any thoughts or advice from anyone more knowledgeable than this intermediate skills woodworker.Adding a star after my second use. With different stock, larger pieces, and a little less to trim, I had no problems with the bit grabbing and just got a smooth nice pattern cut. May have been my fault with my first try but I still remember it as a little scary.

Why did I wait so longer? Been using regular straight bits for pattern trimming and experienced some tear out. This bit is awesome compared to what I had been using, no tear out and super smooth cut. Using bit in router table with 690 PC and worked great. Wish I had purchased sooner.
