How is AquaVial Different From Water Testing Kits Available?
Coliform Bacteria detection
AquaVial Well Water Test and AquaVial E coli and Coliform Water Test kit both use proprietary dyes used to detect the presence of enzyme specific to coliform bacteria - Beta Galactosidase. The enzyme, when present in large enough quantities ( i.e. produced by a live bacteria)- will change the color of the dye from bright yellow to bright purple.
The test is designed to detect even one bacteria per ml of sample within 48 hours at room temperature ( in 24 hours when incubated at 95 to 105 F in controlled conditions).
The test is ideal as at-home screening test for your well, pool, pond, or lake, to make sure the coliform bacteria is not present.
Total Bacteria and Fungi Detection
AquaVial Total Bacteria is based on a cutting-edge technology developed at the University of Waterloo in Canada. It uses functionalized nano-particles that attach to the outer cell membrane of microorganisms. It is a non-specific, quantitative method that does not require any growth media, and this is what makes the test different. The test is based on a color change produced by a change in aggregation of the nanoparticles in the solution, as they attach to the cell membrane, which leads to a shift in color from pink to purple, and a decrease in color intensity (from colored to clear) that can be seen visually observed, or measured using a colorimeter.

I have used half a dozen of these test kits over the years to check that our well water is safe. It shows bacteria, pesticides, etc. It does not show the number of bacteria etc., just whether the water is safe or not. Easy to use and it gives us peace of mind.

We had to test our water as part of the approval process for an AirBnb. It was very easy. One thing to keep in mind: it has to sit for 72 hours to get a result. Not a problem for us, but if you have a specific deadline that could be important.

I like that it is not a chemistry test. Be aware that you will need a mechanism to incubate it for 24 hours. I used the Instant Pot yogurt setting to put the small closed container of water sample in.

Accuracy is phenomenal. We use well water and I took a sample of my water to a test site then used this and outcome was the same. Well worth the purchase.

Used this as inexpensive and convenient test for ecoli in well after replacing pump. Test indicated no presence of contamination, as expected from prior tests over the years. I assume the test results were accurate, though I have no way to know unless I take another sample and send to a real lab. Why would you ask me if the test was accurate??? What is sheerness? I guess I need to know morre about water and your test.
