I bought a couple of opaque pi0 cases that include usb and lan interfaces but hid the activity light. I drilled a hole in the top of the case directly above the activity led and cut one of these to the right length to just reach the led. It produces a nice glow visible from an angle and a distance to see that the unit is on. I cut the thing with a pair of flush-cutters, they chipped slightly at the cut-point but it’s all good.
