What Does a Timing Belt Do?
The timing belt keeps the camshaft and crankshaft turning at the correct rate.The crankshaft moves pistons up for compression and exhaust cycles, while the pistons move down for power and intake cycles. Depending on the vehicle make, a timing belt will also run the water pump, oil pump and injection pump.
When do the timing belt with water pump need to be replaced?

The water pump in this kit was cheaply made and my mechanic refused to use it. He ordered a better one to put in my vehicle. Although the ad said this kit would work in my 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe, the water pump gasket that came in the same kit did not fit the water pump. Furthermore, the water pump holes did not line up with my car's engine.

Everything looks good quality and the water pump fits good and smooth. Only problem was it has the wrong tensioner mechanism. The distance between the bolts was too short to fit. Had to order one from a different vendor.

Tensioner wasn’t correct so had to buy another kit just for tensioner as it wasn’t available by itself and now stuck with extra parts

A little disappointed it doesn't come with the O-ring for the back of the water pump, since this is the 4th time I've done the repair and its hard NOT to pull the whole water pump off the engine, but I already knew this was gonna be an issue and ordered it separately because this was a known issue.Fel-Pro 35959 "Water outlet tube gasket"
