The DC models have a profile with more wood on the tip, heart, and sides than the regular Superial model. This produces characteristics of a darker, more powerful, more solid tone core, an enhanced feeling of aliveness, and a singing, yet deep resonance. Made from fine wild grown Var cane, each and every reed table is checked under light for flatness and hand adjusted if necessary.

These are my new go-to reeds for tenor. They are a good balance between dark and bright. They have a lot of punch, but you can still play softly with them so they are great for jazz. They might not be bright enough for a big band or funk/rock band setting as they have more of a solid fundamental tone rather than a lot of overtones, which I very much like. Good if you want to sound like Coltrane or Sonny Rollins, but bad if you want to sound like Kenny G. They feel pretty firm for their hardness which might be an issue if your mouth endurance is low. If you're a beginner I'd suggest getting the 2 1/2 hardness. These are very consistent, as all 5 of the reeds in my pack were well-made, with all symmetrical cuts (none off-center), no bad discoloration on the reed surface, and none that are too thin or thick at the tip. I'd compare them to the Vandoren ZZ reeds. Brighter (and softer) than the V16 but darker (and firmer) than the Java series.
