It's big, it's heavy, it's huge. It's also as sharp as a butter knife. It does not cut. Not even a little bit. Not at all. Completely and absolutely dull. Be prepared to sharpen it before you use it if you buy this thing.I bought it new, this isn't a review for a used item. It did appear to be new, it looked perfect, but couldn't cut itself out of a wet paper bag.

We’re building fence posts on our property and this device turned out to be absolutely incredible… I recommend anybody with a large ranch to consider this tool for rebuilding your fence.

I decided to risk it. I'm making a wine rack, by drilling 3 1/2" holes into a board, then cutting that board in half. I started using a traditional hole saw, and I drilled 7 hole (with two different drills, because my cordless drill conked out), and it took me about a half hour. Got this bit, straight out of the box, and cut 6 holes (one tester in the scrap end of the board) in less than 3 minutes. Battery on the Milwaukee is a 5Ah, and it only drained 1 bar with 6 holes. That's pretty good! DEFINITELY USE A HANDLE!!!! I tried this with the drill clutch, and it would just stall. Put the handle on and held it steady, and it drilled itself right through. Will this work on nicer hard woods? No idea. If you need it to slow down, drill a pilot hole of about 1/4", and it won't pull itself through as fast.

The bit did the job just like I expected. However the set screw vibrates loose and should be checked periodically. The screw tip is excellent for centering the bit and keeping it on track. I found that a drill of at least 9 amperes or greater to do the job for cutting smoothly. Gives quite a work out. I used the bit to build my log spiral stairs and was happy with it.

Got this bit for a job we were doing boring holes in a hardwood called white ash.. ended up boring almost 500 holes with it 1- 1 1/2” deep. First off you need a heavy duty drill press or you will kill your machine. The bit basically needs to be filed with a good file before you start or it’ll just make it worse cutting.. after some fine tuning and filing it after every so many holes the bit works fine and hogs out the material.

Worked great for installing my treehouse attachment bolts. It killed my old cheap drill. Purchased a quality high torque drill and this bit zipped through the wood. Quality seems like it could handle lots of use, but so far I've only needed it 6 times. For the price, it was well worth it.

Worked great. I went 3" deep into a solid whit oak tree to install 2 tree house attachment bolts. It was work, but the bit held up well and still looked nearly new one completed.

Definitely heavy duty! Comes with a spare center pulling screw and the Allen to replace it. Obviously not high quality but im not going to use this professionally. Perfect for the little jobs I got to do.

I am a professional carpenter, and have used all quality of tools in my career. This bit was dull to start with, no bit deal, I sharpened it easily with a file. It worked well for a short spell, then, it broke at the shank. I had it mounted in a drill press. I had taken the spare point and ground the screw tip down so that it was just a standard spur. It had grabbed a few times, nothing out of the ordinary. I was running it at about 380 rpms. It held up for about a dozen holes but then broke clean off at the shank. It might work okay if you use the screw shank, but its not going to hold up to extended use.

If you've never tried a Forstner bit like this for drilling large holes, you should. Compared to a hole saw, this thing is a monster. You need to have the right drill for the job (big) and the right angle of attack (straight) but one it gets going, it doesn't stop until it's through whatever material you throw at it. No more leaning on drills and getting fatigued. Just line it up, pull the trigger, and hold on. This one in particular made QUICK work of a few joists to run conduit. Truly worth the investment over a hole saw. The adjustable tip is nice as well, since each job is slight different. I really have nothing bad to say about it.

I use this on a drill press so it works perfectly for what I am doing. The edges come out are a little rougher than some of the other forstner bits I've used with more cutting edges and spurs but the ability to sharpen them on your own is a huge advantage. I like that they are heavy duty bits and as long as the rpm's are up around 1000 it cuts a pretty clean hole.
