The replacement one piece tip was just as others have said. it is a welcome upgrade to the 2 piece tip.

I like Starrett tools, they work great for me. This, however, was a disappointment. This tip did not fit my 18A, perhaps there are different versions of 18A punches.

This is a fantastic upgrade / repair for the old style removable tip Starrett 18A center punch. I have 2 of those old style 18A's and after years of use, both of them had the removable tip fail - the tip broke off at the threads and rendered the center punches useless. This one piece tip replaced the broken parts perfectly and easily - now my 18A's are back in service and should last for many, many years.

What used to be a teeny little screw in Tipp is now one continuous piece so you can't lose it easily on this excellent center punch automatic center punch from Starrrete

I have the old style Starrett automatic center punch with the tiny screw-in replaceable tip. This item replaces not only the tip, but also the striker the tip screws into. To replace, unscrew the tip (will probably require pliers) then unscrew the main body and remove the old striker. Drop in the new one-piece tip and striker, screw on the main body and... Yahtzee! My 18A originally had a 2 piece screw on tip. Screw on tip got too small to hold and sharpen. this is a 1 piece tip in a starret envelope, fits perfectly. big enough to hold and sharpen forever. Really glad I could get it.
