Looks great, sounds great. FM reception very good, AM not so great at my location. It did come with an external FM antenna but do external AM antenna. I like the fact that it has no digital display, no Bluetooth, sd cards, usb ports or batteries. A simple radio that fills the room with a deep rich sound.

I have had this about 8 months. Good looking, good sound, quality feel....But after 8 months it no longer holds the station I listen to exclusively.Even when tuned in as close as possible there is a constant mild static.I am disappointed and will now have to start over. Not cheap.

I wanted a 100% analog radio. Came across this brand and saw that they’ve been around for a long time. This radio is so pretty, has great sound and it’s solid.!! I love the simple design. I highly recommend.!It also brings about a little nostalgia of the radios we had when I was a kid.

This is the classic silver-faced version, the one made since 1974. The wood is a medium-dark walnut tone, not the honey-tone of some of their other models. The silver face is a bit dark so it may be best in a bright room. But it looks good in a dark room too, the tuning dial is lighted, and you don't need light to operate the three simple knobs.Hadn't had a Sangean radio or seen one up close so wasn't prepared for what a quality object it is, in looks, operation, and feel. I knew the Sangean brand as a top HDR / short wave / FM brand so I wasn't too surprised how smoothly the knobs work, how easy and simple the operation is, and generally how well it works as a radio. But the quality of the wood cabinet is better than expected, flawless in each of the three Sangean samples I now have. Watch the little Sangean video included in the Amazon listing that shows them making the veneered wood cabinet; it's no wonder Sangean features that little film of their workmanship because it doesn't disappoint in person.Read in reviews here the sound is bassy, and it's somewhat true but at least it's not tinny or boxy. I did some A-B-A testing when it arrived, against similar sized radios and found it to be the best of what I could find, a warm good sound for news/voice and sounds good for classical orchestral music too.

four stars instead of five partly because it isn't perfect, mostly to get your attention. the other reviews are useful, but they don't address the obvious question: why buy this instead of one of the newer models, especially when they cost less?i decided that buying a radio i don't need makes sense only if it's something i might actually like. i prefer this radio's coloration and simpler face. the WR-11 has extra lettering, and the globe symbol on the WR-11SE doesn't belong on a radio without shortwave capability. frankly, the newer models look cheap to me.there is a more significant difference between the SG-116 and its successors. even though all these models have the same dimensions, the newer ones weigh 15% less, 2283 vs. 2700 grams (cf. the specifications at Sangean's website). i decided that cost reduction might have induced a design change, that the SG-116 might actually be better than its successors, that their presence signaled its imminent discontinuation.random comments: i usually dislike ported speakers, but that technique is appropriate here. if you designed a box for a 3" speaker, its volume might be similar to this radio's. bass compensation might be unnecessary, but it can be justified (cf. ISO 226 — Normal equal-level-loudness contours). the internal FM antenna works quite well!less positively: the veneer on my refurbished unit is so perfect, it looks like plastic. the green lights are too bright.i bought this radio primarily to listen to baseball games, so i might disassemble it this winter to do something about the lights. at that point, maybe i'll discover why the SG-116 is so heavy, relatively speaking.
