I love my new, budget saxophone but the ligature that came with it was terrible. I debated for quite a while and decided that even if this was terrible it was refundable. I was so pleasantly surprised when this ligature arrived! It works perfectly and looks great as a bonus. Oh and the price was right!

For my clarinet I have a Rovner Versa, which for that instrument is a little better than a Dark, but . . . I believe Rovner Darks are the best ligatures for saxophones, even better than the $100 plus ligatures. They don’t necessarily make your sax play dark, but bring a lovely, balanced sound. I play soprano, alto and tenor sax.

Replaced both of my older metal ligatures on my alto and tenor mouthpieces. Easy to use. Quicker to secure reed with single screw and also secures more effectively. Once secured the reed doesn't move or shift in the mouthpiece that I've noticed in the few months ive been using it.

First of all, I'm a total beginner. I'm an older adult that played sax in school and have decided to revisit it. The ligature sounds/performs fine. I'm an amateur so I can't tell you if it's particularly dark, bright, or what, so take this with a grain of salt. The first problem is that the ligature did not come with a cap. I had to order one for an additional $12-$13. Not a huge deal, but a cap is depicted in the description. Secondly, the small bar gets caught on the threads of the screw when you're opening the ligature to remove it. You have to kind of pry it open with your finger to get it off. A minor annoyance, again, not a huge deal. I opened up the hole a little with a drill and that has helped some, but I may have to go in and open it up a little more because it still hangs a bit. All in all, it performs MUCH better than the cheap, double-screw ligature that came with my saxophone, that much I can tell you for certain. I didn't want to mess with returning it, so I just ordered a cap for it. As I get better I will probably look to get a different ligature, but until I reach the point where I can determine the difference in sound, this one will do just fine.

The tenor sax version of this ligature was purchased per the suggestion of a friend as a very reasonable upgrade with potential improve my sound. I find it much easier to use than the old metal ligature that I was using previously. I have recently upgraded to another mouthpiece and it also works great with the new one. The other bonus is that the Rovner does not scratch or damage the mouthpiece like the old school metal ligature can. I noticed a fuller sound and more predictable response after the switch and would say this is a great option for new sax players of all ages.

I've been playing semi-professionally (I have a day job) for 30+ years, and I've never given much weight to ligature hype. A few years ago I "auditioned" a half-dozen different ligatures priced up to $100+ and was totally underwhelmed with the results. I sent them all back except for this one, but never broke it out until the other day. I've been playing a standard Rovner on an old Claude Lakey alto piece and developed my sound to my liking. When I came across the new Rovner again I put it on using the heaviest weight insert (because it was already in it) and flipped the flaps up so that the metal was not touching the reed. I noticed a definite difference. My sound seemed less muffled, yet not edgy. I have the same control with this Rovner as with the old standard Rovner, but with a noticeable dynamic range difference. I feel like my tone quality when I'm playing loud is better with this lig. I still think that most lig differences are imaginary and I'd never pay $100 for one, but I have to admit this lig has made a difference for me.
