First, note that I have spent over 50 years in telecommunications including nearly all aspects of audio & RF design, troubleshooting, etc. I have been a Sound Tech. in several churches for 15 years, so please take note of what I have discovered after purchasing a Rockville Rockmix 8.When I first inserted this unit into my sound system & adjusted the gains, it worked fine for linear amplification & mixing. However, I needed the compressor to “normalize” the considerable differences in the source audio. As I turned up the compression adjustments, I did notice the program material getting louder, but the difference between the lowest and the highest levels (dynamic range) remained the same.I disconnected the unit and inserted a test tone into the Rockmix 8 CH. 1 and into CH. A of a 2-channel oscilloscope. CH. B of the oscilloscope was then connected to the output of the mixer, with compression fully counterclockwise (none). I adjusted the scope sinewave traces so they were aligned precisely on top of each other. Then, I increased the compression, and CH. B trace amplitude increased in a linear fashion with no amplitude rolloff whatsoever – this should not happen!Compressors have a “knee” in their compression curve that, once reached, any further amplitude increase at the input does not produce an equal increase at the output. In the Rockmix 8, there was no combination of adjustments that ever resulted in compression, or any change in dynamic range. It turns out that the “compression” knob simply adjusts a linear amplifier stage that turns on an LED, deceiving the user into thinking the compressor is working. To me, this appears to be a design or quality control issue at the factory. Both CH. 1 an 2 were tested and found to have the same issue.Furthermore, there is no user manual. I contacted the factory and they stated that there is no published user manual, and was told to watch the video. I did, and although the video is good at depicting all the features, it sorely lacks any "how to" information - in my case I wanted more detail on how to set up the Bluetooth. So, if you don't need or ever want compression, or don't need more information than what's in their video, this may be an OK mixer for you, although you can find less expensive mixers that don't include compression.

So many creative ways to route your audio! i currenlty have a mic, my xbox, computer, aux in, DJ board and phone all inputs and i can directly control what my live stream hears, the built in compressor is absolutely amazing!

I have both the ROCKMIX 4 & 8 so I'll be comparing the two.Coming from ROCKMIX 4, I had high hopes for the ROCKMIX 8, with more inputs and knobs.Unfortunately, by default, this mixer is set to Loopback, meaning, people on the other end of the line would hear their own voices back, unless you're muted. And I could not figure out how to make it not loopback. With ROCKMIX 4, you have the option to flip the switch from Loopback to other sources, but not with ROCKMIX 8. So, you cannot use this in any virtual meetings or any conversational type of situation online. And it's a pain to keep muting/unmuting yourself every time just to prevent others from hearing themselves when they speak. That's a big downside for me so I'm might be returning the product.Another thing to note, with ROCKMIX 4 the main mix volume knob is independent to the rest of the volume so even when you turn the knob all the way down, you'd still get signal of your voice on the computer, but not with ROCKMIX 8. With ROCKMIX 8 you'd need to turn it up to be able to send signal of your mixer to your computer. It took me a while to figure this out because I can hear myself through the headset but wondered why I could not be heard in Zoom. No biggie but just something to note.Other than that, the mixer is pretty decent for other use cases.**Update: I found a workaround to my problem by using FX Send as mixer OUTPUT to the computer. And then another cable going back from the computer to the the mixer (Channel 5-6) so I can hear any playback from the computer through my headphone. So I don't use the built-in USB feature anymore. I tried using it once to receive audio from the computer. But it's flaky (sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't), so I decided not to.Anyway, if I wanted the LOOPBACK function, then I'd just use the FX knob and turn it up; if not, I'll turn it down. But doing all these, I had to get me some more accessories, like, an Audio Jack Adapter, a couple of cables and a couple of 1/4 inch male to 1/8 inch female TRS adapters. So far everything works ok. The the quality is also ok. At times I'm getting random noise somewhere, I could not locate what's causing it, but at times it's working fine.

I use this Mixer for making voice over demos with my XLR mic and another computer for audio related to the video. I loved the fact it has USB so I can easily hook it up to my work laptop. The downside is it is very susceptible to electrical interference from the other electronics on my desk. I will saw I was surprised when I saw it was also powered with a USB cable. It makes me question a bit on the build quality. Other than that it has the live EQ I'm looking for. Just need to figure out how to get rid of that interference as the buzz is starting to get annoying.

Love this mixer - it's so straightforward, and the compression on there is really nice (and helpful too)
