With respect to a Yaesu FT-5DR, the charger accommodates either the battery standalone, or the radio with battery attached. Notable is that the battery fits into the charger with Yaesu's belt clip attached to the battery without any drama.When a battery is not inserted into the charger the LED is off. During charge the LED is red. Finally when the battery is fully charged the LED flashes green.Overall the charge time is a substantially smaller fraction of the time charging the battery via the Yaesu AC adapter plugged into the radio.

The first unit did not work. Returned for replacement, this one works ok. Quick turn around with second unit. Would purchase again.

Item works better than original Yaesu charger. It is 1 amp where the Yaesu is 0.5 amp. This one charged perfectly with radio or battery alone. Red charge, green full and has over charge protection. If you insert an already charged battery, it will not try to top off! Also tried wall cube and my USBC small adapter with 1ft USBC to USBC cable to charge base. Worked 100%.

For the first time, both my FT5D and my FT1XDActually received a full charge! The Yaesu Cradle charger never would do this. I’ll probably purchase another one and throw away the yaesu
