The handle is far enough away from cup to keep from burning fingers when holding it. Firm construction. Reminds me of a steel barrel and an old steel beer can from the 1970s. A little pricey for what it is, but I am buying more. I made the Cockeyed Bull leather wrap myself which also helps to hold it with hot coffee in it.

I got this because I thought it looked cool. It does, like a 55g barrel shrunken down. It’s relatively small, good for an 8oz pour (pictured) with room for cream. If you drink coffee black, it’ll hold a 10oz pour. It’s light, 111gr empty, and will find a place in my camping backpack.

Take a look at the photo. That’s a US Army-issue canteen cup. It’s OK for boiling water for shaving, but it’s terrible as a drinking cup. Compare it to this QualGifts camping cup that almost looks like something a soldier might get at a CIF/Central Issue Facility. But unlike a canteen cup it’s perfect for enjoying some coffee, tea, or a cup of soup. When I was deployed to Iraq for Operation Desert Storm it dawned on me that the one thing I missed having the most was a decent coffee cup, and there was no PX in the middle of the desert, no convenience stores either. This may seem like a minor thing, but the little comforts matter when you’re living in a tent. Also, on the Army canteen cup the wire holders are loose and awkward. I hated using it. This handle is intact. It doesn’t move around, so you get a firm grip. This is a major improvement over the government-issue cup. It looks a bit like a metal barrel, and it is OD-green. And being metal, it won’t break. This will withstand a lot of wear and tear. This should be for sale in the PX! It’s ideal for camping or hiking. I keep mine in my grab-and-go emergency bag, and while I don’t do much camping anymore, it’s a comfort to have this on-hand.
