I've been a mechanic for 25 years. This tester has MORE adaptors than the name brand tester I paid $250 for. My master kit does not have nipples for small engines, I'm going to have to buy this just for that.I've also been using generic/China pressure testers for 15+ years, I've NEVER seen a meaningful difference in readings between these and snap-on or Mac (I don't buy Matco, they're overpriced, uncomfortable, and still made in China).Snap-on, Matco, Mac tools, China, all use the same fittings, as they are all made in China.Every part on this tester is directly interchangeable with any name brand tester.

I just had to do some engine repair on an older vehicle and needed a kit like this to check the compression after replacing a piston. This kit saved me from renting one from the auto parts store, and I’ll be getting more use in the future on my other vehicles and those I may purchase.Overall, the kit worked as expected and is pretty simple and straightforward. There are a variety of adapters for various spark plug sizes and a couple fittings with rubber tips in case you have something that the adapters don’t fit.One point of caution- be sure to connect the adapter you’re using quite firmly (like with pliers) to the hose or you run the risk of the hose unscrewing and leaving the adapter in the engine. This happed to me on this first cylinder (see photo) but thankfully I was able to unscrew it using some needle nose pliers. If this had been in a difficult to reach position, the situation could have been much worse. For this reason I gave this kit a 4-star rating. I think the design would be improved if the adapters had a design incorporating a hex-shaped body so if they did get stuck, they could be removed with a socket.Another tip-Don’t over tighten the assembled hose and adapter in the cylinder head- it only needs to seal the rubber O-ring firmly to prevent leaks. This will help ensure the assembly can be easily removed.

This is a good kit to have around the garage, especially if you're diagnosing or buying old cars/engines. It has adapters that I think will fit most any spark plug holes, and two press fit adapters for non spark plug cars (diesels). No need to use teflon tape on the adapter fittings, there are already rubber o-rings.The measured PSI is important, but what's more important is seeing if there's large deltas on one or more cylinders.I'm pretty happy to add this to my mobile tool box. Combine this with a bump start button to activate the starter from then engine bay, and you'll really speed up your diagnosis.
