When we adopted the use of stainless steel ear clamps for our PEX plumbing lines we were under the impression that the steel clamps were easy to remove with handy man tools. We have found that this is not the case, so we have searched for a tool designed just for the task. The Oetiker HC 2000 seems to be one of the few tools offered as such.I downloaded and read the Oetiker HC 2000 instruction sheet, which is available at the Oetiker website, but quickly learned that the Oetiker HC 2000 will not cut through a stainless steel PEX clamp as illustrated in the document.I resorted to rotating 90 degrees from the suggested orientation for the use of the tool, grasped the "ear" of the clamp where it is already pinched inward, and forcefully twisted the clamp apart. This is the same technique I was using with a large vice grips. It places a lot of stress on the PEX tubing. The tubing bends while you are twisting the clamp off. You need a long enough length of tubing to allow for a firm grasp and leverage when you apply the torsional force to the assembly, so do not cut your fitting out until you have removed the clamp. This is why I sought a tool that can presumably cut the steel clamp rather than simply deform it.It is disappointing to think that there may not be a good tool made for this job. It is even more disappointing to think that Oetiker sells this tool as being suitable for the job when its performance is only marginally different, and no better, than general purpose tools.Thank you.

Solid tool would like a little better if it was spring loaded. Most of the time I'm in tight spots so the spring action would be nice but overall good tool.

Necessary tool when working with crush clamps especially in tight spaces. The tool is quality made but a little on the expensive side considering the other tool that crushes the clamps is half the price.

Can't cut a stainless steel 15.7 clamp in one stroke, have to nibble in from one side with several cuts.Ordinary end-nipper pliers work just about as well, and for a lot less money.

After struggling for days trying to get some stainless PEX clamps off, I found this. Worked on the first try. Wish I'd had it sooner!
