This crucible has worked as well as any other I've used, and came with a set of tongs, all for the same price as the other crucibles by themselves. The tongs are smallish for this size crucible, but I have no complaints.

I have used this crucible only 2 times. Once in a wood fire I which I had it hot enough to melt cans. Once using coal as a fuel in my forge. I melted down a garbage can full of cans. The crucible performed perfectly. I heated up the crucible slowly, and as even as I could. The one review stating it broke on first use could have been due to thermal shock. This is graphite and clay, and should be heated gradually and evenly. I did not read that in the product description, but I have over a decade of professional foundry experience so please take my word as a professional. I expect to get many uses, and if it should fail prematurely and not due to negligence, I will reflect that in an update. As of now, two thumbs up!

Excelllllent tongs and crucible. CONDITION IT BEFORE USE THE FIRST TIME. Instructions were included with mine for conditioning before initial use. Please make sure to do this before melting anything. Great quality. Great Seller.

Didn't really see any good comparisons in size to something I was wanting to melt down so here is what I was looking for in case anyone else is curious. The #3 (4kg) is plenty big to fit a whole 12 oz. Alluminum pop can. Not sure how many it will hold melted down yet... that will be in an update to this.Update: I lost count on how many melted cans it would hold but quite a few! I'm going to say more than 50! I like others it seems have found the tongs that come with this not really worth using, they cracked on the second use (even after preheating) Maybe I didn't let it heat up enough? even After cracking they were still semi usable but not for carrying or holding anything heavy for sure as the end would just bend open. After cracking i only used them to add stuff to the crucible. Hope this helps anyone.

Was not impressed with the clamps. The clamps were made for like the 1 kilogram crucible with the lip... The clamp was not made for a #3 crucible. It is only good for taking it out of the foundry. Very flimsy when trying to pour the crucible that came with it. Other than that the crucible did its job. I highly recommend buying larger more stable clamps to pour ...you could possibly lose a melt accidentally spilling it... Just becsuse the flimsiest of th he clamps.

A little fragile but with proper handling it’s good.
