Out of the box I was thinking the metal work is extremely unfinished. Low quality materials that obviously cost very little to manufacture. But I attached it to the high hat stand and works very well.

Does any other company exemplify crappy American engineering more than Manhasset? If so, I don't know of one. Their regular music stand desks continue to pop off of their stands and scar the chins of countless student musicians on a daily basis--a design flaw that should have been fixed decades ago. And now there's this piece of crap. How to begin? To assemble it, you need two nut drivers or some combination of pliers to loosen the music desk enough for it to rotate. Even if you're careful and you wrap your tools in cloth, you're almost guaranteed to mar the nut and bolt. Then, you need to loosen the tube that holds the metal bar in place with a flat head screwdriver. So far, everything I've mentioned should have been completely unnecessary, if Manhasset had just shipped the pieces not torqued down.Next, insert the metal tube and screw it down--but not too tight, because the tube that holds it in place is plastic and so you don't want to risk overtorqueing it. Then, tighten the nut and bolt to keep the desk from rotating on the pole (yes, the same nut and bolt that you had to loosen earlier). This is idiotic: in the 21st century, there are all sorts of great alternative fasteners that would be easier to work with, tool free, and even sturdier.OK. Now you're ready to clamp the stand to your hi-hat stand. And what type of material does Manhasset use for that clamp? Pot metal! This is the same metal that all experienced drummers know cracks over time. Come on, Manhasset! You should have used an appropriate metal!Once it's all set up, it's solid and it works well. But through that assembly process, you undoubtedly will have determined the multiple areas that will eventually cause you problems--all of which could have been fixed using easily available alternatives if Manhasset's engineering team weren't stuck using decades-old, substandard methods. Seriously, do they only hire mechanical engineering dropouts?I tell ya: it's enough to make me embarrassed to be an American.

This stand is a great idea and I thought it was ideal for saving floor space. Unfortunately there is one thing I just couldn't live with which was that when choking the hi-hat with the footpedal, the metal tray would vibrate audibly. This probably won't be an issue for acoustic drummers but for e-drums, it's very annoying because you can hear it with your headphones on at home. So, unfortunately it had to go back.

I bought this for my studio kit. It’s pretty good there as I don’t have to move around. However, when I go to a gig, you don’t always have the easiest places to set up and see the conductor. It is fairly flexible but not totally. Can be tricky in putting it at the right spot, angle and level. Good idea that needs more tweaking.

The design is better than any other drum stands I've seen. Of course the more adjustments you can make the better. Manhasset always builds with quality in mind and that hasnt changed. The stand is sturdy. It is large , so you can spread open sheet music. I'm still making adjustments so I will add to the review if anything significant comes of it.

First I thought I was ordering a goose neck music stand holder but now glad it was not. This is a rigid clamp-on music stand holder that still remains very flexible in how it is setup. Very happy with this stand and will be ordering another for the drum set.

I crossed my fingers as I purchased this hoping to get a music stand, not a Guitar Case (which is what the name of the item says). Good thing I trusted my instincts and bought it anyways. This stand is very sturdy. The actual sheet music holder is a bit big, but I was able to fit it on my Crash Cymbal Stand (see pic). I like having the sheet music more in the center than on my hi-hat stand. Overall it is a great stand and happy I purchased it.

I love this music stand! Well built and sturdy, it allows a drummer to see the music or lyrics up close without interfering with the kit! Moves around for easy access in tight spaces.

Manhasset stands are the only ones I use. They last forever. I am a woodshedder and spend hours practicing. I also have a fused neck that is irritated by having the music stand by my hi hat. While this is advertised to connect to your hi hat, I have it hooked up to my single tom holder with the curved part going over my bass drum. This puts it in the perfect position to read your music straight ahead, alleviating any twisting of the neck. Of course, it won't work while gigging, but for practicing it is a Godsend! Would also work with two mounted Tom's.

When playing (jazz) time on the hi-hat, it's a very standard thing to click the hi hat stand with the free hand . If you try to do that with this product, the tightened clamp takes away the resonance of the stand and makes for a pretty undesirable sound. Chances are, most drummers do not employ this technique and therefore would be fine with this product. However, if you play jazz, you probably employ this technique and may want to consider this drawback. Other than that, it's perfectly fine. I have the Manhasset 53DH attached to a thin vintage Gretsch stand and nothing falls off due to vibration. Floor space is freed up with this product and the music stand can come in nice and close.
