This drop clutch is as classic and simple as it needs to be. Very compact so it fits on some of the shortest hi-hat rods and if in many cases will fit fine if left fixed full time if you wanna mount a tambourine on top without removing. I do this. The only drawback is that, if you are using a hi-hat tambourine then u need a taller post and even then it is not as convenient to drop the clutch in play w/ stick like so with the Pearl version. There is also no means of using as a non drop clutch without removing it as there is non lug hole to screw into on base. I’ve only so far seen the DW offer this cool feature if you do need to go back and forth. I leave mine on and engaged almost full time. It is a great accessory to those needing the free foot to se for other foot devices such as 2nd kick bass or foot activated cowbell or blocks of wood.Here’s how I dealt with the drop lever issue on a short post with hi-hat tambourine mounted. I fited a small piece of aluminum tube in 5” flattened on 1 ends to slip over lever and pressed into place. You may use rubber tape if needed to secure. It’s light enough to not drop too soon and the angle is just right to stick out from under the tambourine and play as desired. In this set up as seen in my photo, you can do a foot splash incorporating tambourines and adding a delay drop by tapping the tube just after it engages again in a cycle. A cool effect . Use w/o tambourine just fine.All in all, it’s a great piece from Ludwig sporting the 70’s-currentLudwig script in the thumb key & nice bright chrome finish.
